DRAFT: Blackhawks Close Out Draft with James, Juntorp and Tohila Picks

Closing out the 2022 NHL Draft, the Blackhawks made their final three picks of the week in rounds six and seven on Friday, selecting forward Dominic James at No. 173 overall, winger Nils Juntorp at No. 188 overall and Riku Tohila at No. 199 overalls.

Chicago also acquired forward Liam Gorman from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for the No. 167th overall pick in the sixth round. Gorman, a sixth-round selection (No. 177 overall) of the Penguins in the 2018 draft, is entering his senior season at Princeton University.

To move up to the No. 188 spots, Chicago sent their 2023 sixth-round selection to the Carolina Hurricanes for the pick.

James, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound native of Plymoth, Mich., just completed his rookie season at the University of Minnesota-Duluth with 18 points (6G, 12A) in 39 games. Before college, the forward played with fellow Blackhawks draft pick Aidan Thompson with the Lincoln Stars of the USHL, where James had 48 points (14G, 34A) in 99 games over two seasons.

Juntorp a 6-foot-1, 186-pound native of Ulricehamn, Sweden, posted 41 points (17G, 24A) in 44 games for the HV 71 Under-20 team last season.

Tohila, a 6-foot-5, 190-point native of Kalajoki, Finland, played for the U-20 team of Liiga’s JYP last season, tallying 15 points (7G, 8A) in 41 games.
