Emma Corrin has revealed they feel more ‘seen’ when using ‘they/them’ pronouns and reflected on coming out to their family when they started dating a girl.

The Crown actor, 26, spoke about gender fluidity as they appeared as Vogue’s August 2022 cover star and posed for a series of sensational photographs.

Last year, Emma changed their pronouns to she/they on their Instagram bio and later said they wanted to be ‘very authentic’ with their platform.

They have since changed their pronouns to ‘they/them’ on the social media site and opened up about why they feel more comfortable using those pronouns.

Speaking to Vogue magazine, Emma explained that they feel ‘more seen’ when they are referred to with gender neutral pronouns.

‘I feel much more seen when I’m referred to as ‘they,’ but my closest friends, they will call me ‘she,’ and I don’t mind, because I know they know me,’ Emma said.

Emma said that they don’t feel that gender is ‘fixed’ and explained that they might always feel some fluidity about their gender identity.

The My Policeman star also reflected on how supportive their family were when they came as queer and told them about their relationship with a woman.

‘I started dating a girl and told my mum, and then my little brother DM’d me saying, “hey, I wanted to say welcome, because I’ve been bi for ages”,’ Emma explained.

But Emma admitted they have struggled with the in some of their acting jobs, particularly when having to wear bras in Lady Chatterley’s Lover, which is yet to be released, and while starring as Marion in My Policeman.

Production on the film, which is set in Brighton in the 1950s and based on Bethan Roberts’ novel, kicked off in Brighton last April and will be released in November.

As well as opening up about their gender identity in the Vogue interview, Emma also posed up a storm for a series of impressive photographs for the magazine.

‘I think we are so used to defining ourselves. That’s the way society works within these binaries and it’s taken me a long time to realise that I exist somewhere in between and I’m still not sure where that is yet.’

‘I just walked through where we’re staying along canal street and it’s just an amazing feeling of solidarity, it’s a beautiful feeling to be among that sort of thing.’
