It was one of the first games announced for the PS5, but licensed stealth action title The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will finally lurk onto Sony’s new-gen console (as well as PS4, of course) from 1st September. A new gameplay trailer gives a taste of what you can expect, including first-person deep-sea diving and lots of of crawling through shrubbery.
“Gollum is perhaps the most maligned and misunderstood creature in all of Middle-earth,” the press release teases. “Cursed with duelling personalities and a constant compulsion to find his Preciousss, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum takes players on an exceptional journey, sharing a perspective unique to Gollum alone. Whether creeping through tall grasses or swimming in rivers, Gollum must adapt and move with stealth if he is to evade enemies during his adventure.
The title’s definitely improved since its earlier showings, and there are a real dearth of stealth games these days, so it could plug a gap. However, we’re still not all that keen on the idea of taking control of Gollum – it just doesn’t sound all that appealing to us. Hopefully we get to see a bit more gameplay prior to its release in a couple of months.
