Galaxy Note spirit will be reborn year after year through new Galaxy S Ultras

The head of Samsung’s mobile division recently confirmed that the company has no plans to bring back the Galaxy Note smartphone series but will keep the Note spirit alive through new Galaxy S Ultra models every year.

More accurately, Samsung’s TM Roh claimed that “starting this year, Galaxy Note will appear in the form of S Ultra every year.” (via @UniverseIce)

Samsung’s last Galaxy Note smartphone series was the Note 20, released in August 2020. There was no new Galaxy Note in 2021, and this year, Samsung effectively turned the Galaxy S22 Ultra into a spiritual Galaxy Note successor.

The S Pen legacy continues one way or another

If there was any doubt concerning the fate of the Galaxy Note series, well, according to this tweet, Samsung wants the Galaxy Note spirit to shine through the Galaxy S Ultra every year. We can therefore assume that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will retain the dedicated S Pen holster and continue to be a Galaxy Note flagship in disguise, bearing a different name.

Admittedly, the Galaxy S22 Ultra did a great job to fill up the void left by the Galaxy Note’s cancelation, so it makes sense for Samsung to want to keep the ball rolling. S Pen fans are still around and will continue to get the best hardware, even if the classic “Note” moniker is gone and the launch schedule has been reshuffled.

Samsung should unveil the next S Pen-enabled flagship, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, alongside a standard and a Plus variant in the first quarter of 2023.
