Vernon Winfrey, Oprah Winfrey’s father, died late Friday after battling cancer, Oprah announced in a statement. He was 89.

“Yesterday with family surrounding his bedside I had the sacred honor of witnessing the man responsible for my life, take his last breath,” Oprah said in a tribute to her father shared on Instagram. “We could feel Peace enter the room at his passing.”

A tribute written on Oprah Daily, Oprah’s lifestyle outlet, said Oprah was able to spend time with her father in Nashville during his final weeks.

On July 4, Vernon was surprised with a “Vernon Winfrey Appreciation Celebration” and backyard barbecue, where he was surrounded by friends and loved ones.

The celebration was a way to give her father his “’flowers while he’s still well enough to smell them,” Oprah said in an earlier post.

During the celebration, Oprah’s friend and gospel singer Wintley Phipps sang for him. “He FELT the love and reveled in it until he could no longer speak,” she wrote.

Vernon was a well known barber in his community and served on the Metro Nashville Council for 16 years.

“I offer my deepest condolences to the family of Vernon Winfrey. Vernon served on Metro Council for 16 years and dedicated his life to entrepreneurship, barbering, and mentoring young men in the community,” Nashville Mayor John Cooper said on Twitter. “An Army veteran and deacon, he leaves behind a legacy of service.”

Oprah’s mother, Vernita Lee, died in 2018 at 83. Lee was born in Mississippi and gave birth to Winfrey as a young woman. Lee and Vernon never married.

Paul Rudd showed a young fan some much-deserved kindness.

The actor reached out to a Brody Ridder, 12, after learning the boy was being alienated at his middle school.

Ridder made headlines in his hometown of Westminster, Colorado after his mother posted a photo to Facebook, revealing that his classmates refused to sign his yearbook.

She also shared a note her last wrote to himself on the blank pages, “Hope you make some more friends – Brody Ridder.”

Rudd, who plays Ant-Man in the Avengers franchise, turns out to be the young boy’s favorite superhero. When Rudd caught wind of what had happened, the actor reached out to the boy and his family and arranged a FaceTime call, according to a post from the Brody’s mother.

Rudd followed it up with a handwritten note and a signed Ant-Man helmet.

“It was great talking to you the other day,” Rudd wrote in the note posted by the boy’s mom to social media. “It’s important to remember that even when life is tough that things get better. There are so many people that love you and think you’re the coolest kid there is — me being one of them! I can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’re going to accomplish. Your pal, Paul.”

Keanu Reeves may just be the nicest — and most patient — man in Hollywood.

The actor is being described as a “class act” for his response to a young fan’s intense questioning following an international flight from London to New York on July 4.

The exchange was captured by TV producer Andrew Kimmel who tweeted the exchange, which has been re-shared over 21,000 times.

Kimmel said the 57-year-old “happily” responded the “rapid-fire questions” the young boy was asking.

“The man could not have been nicer, especially after an international flight,” Kimmel wrote.

According to Kimmel, “The Matrix” star said he was in London filming a documentary and went to the Grand Prix, and although he doesn’t drive Formula 1 cars himself, he does ride a motorcycle.

He also said he would be catching a Broadway show in New York (“American Buffalo! Mamet!”) and staying in Midtown.

“By this time the kid was running out of questions, so Keanu started grilling him,” Kimmel recalled. “Why were you in Europe? What galleries did you go to in Paris? What was your favorite?”

Reeves has gone viral in past years for being a “gentleman,” amid a surge in popularity called a “Keanussance.”

“I thought I’d share this because the dude is a class act and little moments like this can make such a big difference in people’s lives,” Kimmel shared. “We need more Keanus!”

Legendary musician Carlos Santana said a medical emergency Tuesday night during a performance in Michigan, according to his management team.

Santana was “over-taken by heat exhaustion and dehydration,” according to a statement by his management team on his official Facebook page. He was performing at Pine Knob Music Theater, an outdoor amphitheater in Clarkston, which is about 40 miles outside of Detroit.

Temperatures in Clarkston reached up to 90 degrees Tuesday, nearly 10 degrees above average, according to CNN meteorologist Robert Shackelford.

“He had just started a song that was about joy and love,” concertgoer Alisa Zee told CNN. “He called for healing for the world. It was during that song that he collapsed.”

In videos recorded by fans, the 74-year-old musician sits on the corner of the stage and stops playing the guitar.

As medical personnel attended to Santana, the stage crew held up a black tarp to block the view of the stage. As he was removed off the stage, fans are heard in a video cheering for the musician. Zee said the artist waved at fans as he was taken off stage.

“Carlos was taken to the emergency department at McLaren Clarkston for observation and is doing well,” reads the statement on his Facebook page.

Following the incident, Santana also posted a short message on Facebook, where he thanked his fans for their “precious prayers.”

“Forgot to eat and drink water so i dehydrated and passed out,” he wrote.

The musician was set to perform with Earth, Wind and Fire on Wednesday night in Pennsylvania, but that concert has been postponed, according to the statement.

Santana performed Monday as part of CNN’s ‘The Fourth in America’ concert.

Tom Hanks doesn’t get to battle Tim Allen at the box office and he has feelings about that.

In a clip from an interview with CinemaBlend, which was posted on the publication’s Instagram account, Hanks was asked bout his new movie “Elvis” being in theaters the same time as “Lightyear.”

“How about that?” Hanks said. “I actually wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand that.”

“Lightyear” is a prequel to “Toy Story” and focuses on the character Buzz Lightyear, which Allen voiced in the “Toy Story” franchise. Hanks voiced the character of Woody in those films.

But for “Lightyear,” Pixar decided to go with Chris Evans as the voice of the main character, rather than Allen.

Allen recently told “Extra” that he’s tried to stay out of the debate about him not being hired for the prequel.

And it’s a different kind of movie without Hanks’ character in it, he said.

“There’s really no Toy Story’s Buzz without Woody,” Allen said.

Tom Cruise turned 60 years old on July 3 and all we got him was a blockbuster movie.

While “Top Gun: Maverick” cruises the top of the box office, the film’s star spent part of his birthday at the British Grand Prix F1 race.

Not only has Cruise raced a few cars himself, but he is also good friends with race car driver and champion, Lewis Hamilton.

Some of his famous friends wished Cruise a happy birthday on social media.

“Mission Impossible” director Christopher McQuarrie and “Maverick” co-star Glen Powell both posted a photo that appeared to show Cruise, who is known for performing his own stunts, hanging off a plane mid roll.

“This is 60.TC, there is just no one like you,” Powell tweeted. “Keep Hann’ in there. Happy Birthday!@TomCruise.”

His legendary “Top Gun” costar Val Kilmer also sent some birthday love.

“Happy Birthday Mav @TomCruise from Ice!” Kilmer tweeted.

Newlyweds Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian are reflecting on “a scary and emotional week.”

The pair posted on their verified social media accounts about Barker’s recent hospitalization.

“I went in for an endoscopy Monday feeling great,” Barker wrote in a note posted on his Instagram stories. “But After dinner, I developed excruciating pain and have been hospitalized ever since.”

The Blink 182 drummer explained that during his endoscopy, he had “a very small polyp removed right in a very sensitive area, usually handled by specialists, which unfortunately damaged a critical pancreatic drainage tube.”

“This resulted in severe life threatening pancreatitis,” he wrote. “I am so very very grateful that with intensive treatment I am currently much better.”

Barker and Kardashian officially wed in May and hosted a lavish celebration in Portofino, Italy.

She also shared Barker’s note on her Instastories.

“Oh what a scary and emotional week it has been,” she wrote. “Our health is everything and sometimes we take for granted how quickly it can change.”

The entrepreneur and reality star wrote that she was “grateful to God for healing my husband” and “for all of your prayers for him and for us, for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support.’

“I am so touched and appreciative,” Kardashian wrote. “I am so thankful to our specialists, doctors, and nurses at Cedars Sinai for taking such wonderful care of my husband and me during our stay.”

Halsey has a message to concertgoers who don’t agree with the singer’s views on reproductive rights.

Some people in attendance at Halsey’s Sunday night concert in Phoenix reportedly left following Halsey’s comments criticizing the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade, which protected the right to an abortion.

“The truth is that my heart breaks looking out into this audience because I see so many people who deserve to have incredible lives, who deserve the right to healthcare that they need,” Halsey, who goes by she/they pronouns, said in a video shared on Twitter by someone in attendance. “I don’t want you to ever have to be in a situation where you don’t have access to that.”

They added: “If you don’t like it, I don’t know why you came to a Halsey concert, because I’ve never been shy that this is how [I feel]”

Halsey addressed the topic again at a show in Dallas on Tuesday.

“You are in a building full of 15,000 people,” Halsey said. “So all those strangers that you hear stories about, that you think it doesn’t affect you in your real life, look to the left, look to the right, look in front of you, look behind you. These people who are here, who are singing along to the same songs as you, who are here because they love the same things as you, maybe even you, there are people in here whose lives will be saved because they have an abortion. I can tell you about one that I know for certain. Right here.”

Halsey also encouraged the audience to vote for candidates who support reproductive rights.
