Charlotte Hornets restricted free agent Miles Bridges has been charged with felony domestic violence stemming from an incident earlier this week, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed Friday.

the LAPD posted on Twitter that Bridges was arrested for “intimate partner violence with injury,” a felony, on Wednesday following an incident two days earlier in West Los Angeles, and he was booked on a felony domestic violence warrant.

He was released on $130,000 bond and has a July 20 court date. The LAPD said it does not release police reports on domestic violence arrests.

Mychelle Johnson, the mother of Bridges’ two young children, posted several pictures on Instagram on Friday of what appeared to be injuries and a medical report that read “adult victim of physical abuse by male partner; Assault by strangulation, Brain concussion; Closed fracture of nasal bone; Contusion of rib; Multiple bruises; Strain of neck muscle.”

She did not mention Bridges by name, but wrote on Instagram: “I hate that it has come to this but I can’t be silent anymore. I’ve allowed someone to destroy my home, abuse me in every way possible and traumatize our kids for life. I have nothing to prove to the world, but I won’t allow anyone who could do something so horrible to have no remorse and paint a picture of something I’m not. I won’t allow the people around him to continue to silence me and continue to lie to protect this person.”

Bridges’ agent, Rich Paul, has not returned phone calls to The Associated Press and it was unclear whether he has an attorney. Attempts to reach Johnson also were unsuccessful and AP could not locate an attorney of record for her.

The 24-year-old Bridges is a restricted free agent who is expected to command big money in the free-agent market this summer following a breakout season.

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound Bridges was the Hornets’ leading scorer last season, averaging 20.2 points and seven rebounds in his fourth NBA season.

The Hornets extended Bridges a qualifying offer earlier this week, allowing them a chance to match any offer sheet made by another team. The team indicated earlier this week — prior to knowledge of Bridges’ arrest — that it wanted to re-sign him.

The Hornets released a statement on Thursday, indicating they are looking into the incident. NBA spokesman Mike Bass said “we are in the process of gathering more information.”

The wife of Charlotte Hornets player Miles Bridges broke her silence and shared the harrowing aftermath of an alleged domestic violence attack that landed the basketball player in jail.

“I hate that it has come to this but I can’t be silent anymore,” Mychelle Johnson, 24, posted to Instagram. “I’ve allowed someone to destroy my home, abuse me in every way possible and traumatize our kids for life.”

Johnson described the sickening abuse through a series of photos showing scratches to her face, her bloody ear, bruises along her arm, back, and legs.

In one of the photos, a medical report claims Johnson was a “victim of abuse by a male partner” and sustained a nasal bone fracture, a strained neck, and a concussion.

Bridges, who fled the scene before police arrived, was charged with felony domestic violence when he turned himself in to Los Angeles police on Wednesday, according to TMZ.

The 24-year-old was reportedly released on $130,000 bail shortly after his arrest. Johnson and Bridges share two children together and first dated in 2016, according to the outlet.

Johnson, who played college basketball at Marshall University and Middle Tennessee State University, claimed in the Instagram post she was allegedly choked until she fell asleep.

“I don’t need sympathy, I just don’t want this happening to anyone else,” Johnson said. “I just want this person to get help, my kids deserve better. That’s all I want. It hurts, everything hurts, this situation hurts, most importantly I’m scared and hurting for my kids who were witness to everything.”

Bridges, who attended Michigan State University, is set to enter his fifth season in Charlotte. The Flint, Mich. native appeared in 80 games last season and led the Hornets with 20.2 points per game. He was set to become a free agent this offseason.

He was fined $50K last season for striking a fan with a mouthpiece following a play-in game in April.

In a statementthe organization said it was aware of Bridges’ arrest and will continue to evaluate the situation.

“We are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time,” the Hornets said.

Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges was arrested in Los Angeles on Wednesday after a warrant was issued, according to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles Police Department.

LAPD spokeswoman Lizeth Lomeli didn’t release any information about Bridges’ arrest, but according to a report from TMZ Sports, he turned himself into police following an alleged physical altercation with a woman on Tuesday. The woman needed medical attention after the incident and when law enforcement arrived, Bridges was already gone, TMZ reported. He was released after posting a $130,000 bail.

“The Charlotte Hornets are aware of the situation involving Miles Bridges,” the team said in a statement. “We are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Bridges is a restricted free agent and could command an average salary of more than $20 million per season after turning down a four-year, $60 million deal just prior to the start of the 2021-22 season. Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak said Tuesday during the introductory press conference for coach Steve Clifford that re-signing their leading scorer this past season very much remained a priority.

“As an organization, we love Miles and we are going to bring him back,” Kupchak said. “He’s been great for the franchise and I believe with his work ethical he’s only going to get better.”

Precisely how the arrest now affects Bridges heading into free agency is unclear. The Hornets extended a $7.9 million qualifying offer to Bridges on Tuesday, giving them the power to match any contract he receives on the open market. Very few teams have enough salary cap space to sign Bridges to a mega contract, likely already shrinking his potential market.

Bridges’ arrest is the latest incident in a rough offseason for the Hornets.

Montrezl Harrell, who is an unrestricted free agent, is facing felony drug charges stemming from a May traffic stop in Kentucky. According to court records, Harrell was cited by a state trooper for having three pounds of marijuana in a backpack in the rear seat of a vehicle he was traveling in. He was scheduled to be arraigned June 13 to answer the traffic citation, but the arraignment was continued until July 13.

Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges was arrested in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday.

The LAPD did not release details on the charges, and the Hornets have not responded to news of Bridges’ arrest.

TMZ reported that Bridges is facing felony domestic violence charges.

Bridges, the Hornets’ leading scorer last season, is set to become a restricted free agent and could command a max contract in the coming weeks. The news comes on the eve of NBA free agency, which begins Thursday night with teams able to speak with free agents.

Bridges, 24, averaged career highs with 20.2 points and 7.0 rebounds last season in what amounted to a breakout season for the four-year NBA veteran while playing alongside All-Star point guard LaMelo Ball.

Bridges, who played at Michigan State, is also a rapper who goes by the name RTB MB.

The Hornets extended Bridges a qualifying offer Tuesday, which allows them to a chance to match any offer sheet made by another team.

“As an organization, we love Miles,” Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak said Tuesday. “We are going to bring him back. He has been great for the franchise, and I believe, with his work ethical, he’s only going to get better.

Although the 6-foot-7, 225-pound player, who was the 12th pick in the 2018 NBA draft, said after the season that he wanted to return to the Hornets, Bridges recently changed his Twitter bio from “forward for the Charlotte Hornets ”to “It’s me.”
