Trevelin Queen has impressive debut in Sixers’ summer league win

The summer Sixers picked up their first win as they took down the Jazz, 86-82. Paul Reed, Isaiah Joe, and Jaden Springer all sat tonight due to reconditioning in a reasonably low scoring game. There was still some excitement as 2021-22 G League MVP Trevelin Queen made his summer debut for the Sixers. Here are some thoughts on how the key summer Sixers looked tonight.

Charles Bassey: 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals

As a second-year player, Bassey certainly looks like one of the most talented players on the court. Bassey looked really good screening and rolling to the basket, finishing off a couple of exciting lobs. A rim-running backup center is the ideal type to pair with James Harden, and hopefully Bassey gets a chance at that this season.

Trevelin Queen: 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals

There was a fair amount to like in Queen’s first action for the Sixers. He plays at a fast place, showing his athleticism on both ends of the floor. While the first shot of the game was his only made three, he got to his spots confidently on offense and had pretty good touch on his jump shot. He had a couple of ugly turnovers due to trying to play too fast, but it is summer league after all. The competition for the last couple of roster spots could look very interesting for Philly

Charlie Brown Jr. 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals

Philly was super disruptive tonight on the defensive end. It felt like they had a real emphasis on getting into passing lanes and causing deflections. It felt like Brown Jr. was the ring leader of that, especially in the first half. The St. Joe’s product looks to have the athleticism and feel to be a legitimate NBA defender — whether his unconventional jump shot will fall enough will determine if he gets that opportunity. His willingness to attack close outs and crash the glass offensively are two very encouraging signs. He did seem to collide with someone and get knocked in the chin at the end of the third quarter. He went to the locker room and didn’t return out of caution. Hopefully that’s nothing too serious.
