Update: The event has launched, but be aware of a bug affecting the main questline and blocking progress:

You can still earn loot, but challenges will not progress until this is fixed. Incredibly disappointing.

Bungie has revealed that unsurprisingly, this year’s Festival of the Lost will resemble last year’s quite a bit. We have moved on from the Haunted Forest with Mercury (and its tileset) sunset, and now we’re doing Haunted Lost Sectors again, hunting down modified Headless Ones bosses.

The sectors appear to be the same ones as last year, but with a new one added from the EDZ. Also different is our narrator, as this time around it’s not Glint, Crow’s ghost, but Drifter and Eido seem to be our guides, just like they’re running Season of the Plunder currently.

New confirmed masks include Savathun, Caiatl, Blueberry and Bread Loaf. I believe I saw some sort of Mega Man arm cannon emote, that goes along with the new mech armor that we’ve already seen showcased a lot, ever since its victory over Monsters in fan voting. The sniper is called the “Mechabre” which is clever, and we’ve already known about its origin trait and rolls for a while now.

We also know that there is going to be another event card for this event, a new thing that Bungie has started which ties certain cosmetics to the $10 card you will earn unlocks for as you play and complete achievements. The only thing shown right now is a cat sparrow, which may be worth the price of admission by itself. I didn’t think there was enough good stuff in last season’s event pass to actually buy it, but that may change this time around. There was a shader in last seasons, and the Festival of the Lost shaders are always very good, so I may have to shell out.

The core gameplay loop appears to remain the same, wear a mask to generate candy, possibly destroying your build in the process, but oh well. Turn in candy to Eva and earn some cosmetics and drops of the sniper, and the old Festival weapons as well, too.

I will keep this post updated with anything else I discover as I play when the event goes live at reset today, including any highlights of cosmetics you might want to be hunting. I’ll have a video up later that plays through some Haunted Lost Sectors and additional thoughts on the reprized event. For now, you can just watch the trailer above and wait a little bit longer for Festival to hit. We’ll see how it lands this time around.
