Soffer exited the series earlier this month after portraying fan-favorite detective Jay Halstead for ten seasons.<\/p>\n
Jesse Lee Soffer<\/strong> is coming back to Chicago PD\u2026<\/em> sort of<\/p>\n While we won’t see him back on our TV screens, Soffer will be working his magic from behind the camera.<\/p>\n The actor\u2014who portrayed Jay Halstead for ten seasons and made his final appearance on the series earlier this month\u2014will be returning to the franchise to direct, per variety<\/em>.<\/p>\n The outlet confirmed Soffer will return to direct Episode 16 of the current season, which will air sometime in 2023.<\/p>\n The news comes after comeback rumors began swirling as eagle-eyed fans spotted Soffer on set once again.<\/p>\n Soffer confirmed the news himself on Twitter, sharing a thumbs up and a clapperboard emoji in response to a tweet from the outlet that read: “#ChicagoPD is welcoming back @JesseLeeSoffer to direct episode 16!” <\/p>\n After 189 episodes, Halstead was written out of the show during the Oct. 3 episodes. However, the door was left open for a comeback or guest appearance as his character resigned from Intelligence to take on an eight-month-long job in Bolivia with the army.<\/p>\n newcomer Benjamin Levy Aguilar <\/strong>has attempted to fill the void. <\/strong>He first appeared in the drama’s ninth season but was upped to series regular ahead of Season 10. He joins longtime cast members Tracy Spiridakos<\/strong>, Jason Beghe<\/strong>, Marina Squerciati<\/strong>, Patrick Flueger<\/strong>, LaRoyce Hawkins<\/strong> and Amy Morton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
