We are halfway through the 2022 football season, can you believe it?

Marcus Freeman’s first year as head coach has not gone as expected. The Irish stand at 3-3 with, yet, another first-time opponent coming into Notre Dame Stadium looking for a signature win and receiving a big payout of $1.35 million.

Like you, I have 1.35 million thoughts on why Notre Dame is 3-3 and whether the team will have a chance to play in a recognizably known bowl game this year.

But save that last thought for the end of the season. Right now the Irish need to focus on UNLV and get a win.

Notre Dame’s mindset for winning began with “finishing games”, which led to “executing on every play” to, now, focusing on getting off to a “quick start”.

Based on my observations and conversations with select players and coaches this week, Notre Dame used the Fall Break to focus on correcting mistakes and getting off to a quick start and I believe it will show against the Rebels.

UNLV (4-3) will come into Notre Dame Stadium and play above and beyond their season record (although at this time quarterback Doug Brumfield, 8 TDs and 1,231 passing yards, is listed as day-to-day due to a concussion) and will get a few jabs in before the Irish pull away to win this one by decision.

Getting off to that quick start and establishing a run game that will wear down the Rebel defense will be the difference.

Prediction: The Irish will even their home record at 2-2 and head into the Syracuse game at 4-3 with a 38-14 win over UNLV.

How will it happen?

Two touchdown passes to Michael Mayer and one to Braden Lenzy, with rushing touchdowns being scored by Audric Estime and Logan Diggs to go along with a 46-yard FG by Blake Grupe.
