Alabama won its 15th straight game over Mississippi State on Saturday night. It wasn’t particularly close with the Bulldogs scoring on the final play to make it a 30-6 final.

Third-year Mississippi State coach Mike Leach had a theory on why the Crimson Tide gives this program so many problems.

“I’ll tell you one thing they do that gives us trouble,” Leach began. “We’ve got some guys that are afraid of the jersey that says Alabama on it. We spent a lot of time frightened of their jerseys. You want to scare some of the guys on our team, put an Alabama jersey on, it’ll scare the hell out of them.”

The last-second touchdown was the first a Leach-coached team scored against Alabama in three tries. Before Jo’quavious Marks’ 1-yard score as time expired, Mississippi State’s last touchdown in Tuscaloosa came in 2014.

How does Leach fix the Alabama fright?

“I don’t know,” he shrugged, “maybe we have to hang them in their lockers because there are other really good teams that we’re not afraid of their jerseys but we’re afraid of Alabama’s jerseys.”

Leach said Alabama took a 24-0 first-half lead by playing with more physicality and that MSU’s second-half comeback effort was “disjointed and feeble.”

The Bulldogs’ last win over Alabama came in Nick Saban’s first season. The 2007 State with a 17-12 final in Starkville.
