CHICAGO – Bang this.

That was essentially Yankees general manager Brian Cashman’s response to Astros ‘owner Jim Crane’s comments from earlier this week equating the Yankees’ minor fine for using video replay rooms to decode signs to Houston’s sign-stealing scandal that rocked the sport.

“I don’t think anybody’s going to dance to the tune he’s singing,” Cashman said before a game against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on Thursday. “I’d say it’s called deflection, him trying to equate probably an equivalent of a parking ticket to a maybe 162 felonies. I don’t think anybody’s going to buy into that stuff. “

On Tuesday, Crane slammed Cashman in an interview with Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

“I found his comments to be extremely strange, ” Crane said, according to the report. “There’s the letter, and you were doing it, too. You were there dude. What are you talking about? If I was one of the teams, and I knew our team was doing it [cheating]I’d keep my mouth shut and just go about our business. “

Cashman reminded Crane that the Yankees were fined just $ 100,000 for their actions in 2017. The Astros faced a much, much harsher penalty.

“As you recall,” Cashman said, “they lost multiple years of first-round draft picks. They were fined millions of dollars and decided to fire their manager and general manager because of their actions.

Cashman added, “There’s no equivalent to any of it. So, as I said, it’s a deflection. No one’s buying it. No one’s signing to that dance tune. It is what it is. But I applaud him for trying. “

In late April, a letter from MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred to Cashman leaked the said the Yankees would be penalized for using the video replay room to decode signs, then pass them along to a runner on second base to relay them to the hitter. The Yankees also illegally used the dugout phone to communicate the signs.

But it all came out after a Yankees employee discovered that the Red Sox had been using an Apple Watch to send signs to their dugout before they were communicated to players. Boston was also fined at the time.

Cashman said he didn’t mind the letter going public.

“There’s nothing from that letter for us to fear,” he said.

“I don’t think anybody equates it to what the Astros did except for Houston,” Cashman added. “(That is) the feedback from everybody in the industry, including Major League Baseball.”
