Aafter the premiere of the fifth season of ‘The Crown’the Netflix series that portrays the life of the British royal family, in particular that of Queen Elizabeth II, the reactions and criticisms have not been long in coming from the circle close to the royals.

On BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, one of these people attacked the series as “a complete fantasy”. This is Lady Anne Glenconner, who was a bridesmaid at the Queen’s coronation in June 1953, who was upset by the way the British royals have been portrayed.

She considers it an unfair portrayal of the royal family

“It’s very unfair to members of the Royal Family,” added Lady Glenconner, who was Princess Margaret’s maid of honor for more than three decades.

“The problem is that people, especially in America, believe it at face value,” she added. “It’s very irritating. I don’t watch The Crown now because it makes me so angry,” Glenconner, 90, added.

He pointed, in particular, to a scene in the second season about the 1937 death of Prince Philip’s sister, Princess Cecile of Greece, in a plane crash. Glenconner claims that what was presented in the series is “completely false.”

“And I think saying something like that about people is terribly hurtful,” he added. “No one wants their relationships to be torn apart like that.”

He also gave Helena Bonham Carter

In addition to pointing out that the series depicts a Princess Margaret that does not correspond to reality, Glenconner also actress Helena Bonham Carter, who played Princess Margaret.

“She visited me for about two hours. I told her how Princess Margaret smoked, how she walked,” said Glenconner.

“I saw Helena after I’d been to The Crown and she said, ‘What did you think?’ ‘ And I said, ‘Well, pretty disappointed.’ And she said, ‘I know. But the thing is, I’m an actress and I have to do what’s written for me.‘”
