Let’s go drive-by-drive, as the Gophers are trailing 16-13 and have it 1st-and-10.

Minnesota’s first play of the quarter sees a miscommunication between tight end Nick Kallerup and right tackle Quinn Carroll, which results in neither blocking James Thompson, who sacks Athan immediately. The Gophers get behind the sticks and end up punting.

Wisconsin’s first drive results in a three-and-out, and then Minnesota’s passing game finds some traction. A quick hitter to Dylan Wright gets 14, and then Athan Kaliakmanis takes a shot in finding Brevyn Spann-Ford for 19 yards. I still need to understand how helmet-to-helmet contact from the defender to the face mask of the quarterback isn’t a flag, but they pick it up. Then, on 2nd-and-11, this happens.

This Daniel Jackson catch is worth another look or two. ??@25DanielJackson x @GopherFootball pic.twitter.com/a6t16vknBp

The thing you don’t see here, which was clear as day from the press box, was Jackson is held BADLY as he accelerates out of the double move. Still trying to figure out how the side judge doesn’t see that and throw a flag, but Jackson makes one of the best catches the Gophers got all season.
Minnesota gets a field goal and ties it up with eight minutes left.

Wisconsin’s next drive goes nowhere, and Minnesota gets a punt. After off-setting special teams penalties on both teams, Quentin Redding watches a punt die at the Minnesota 29. Another drive where the aerial attack propels the Gopher offense, as Athan finds Daniel Jackson across the middle for a first down, and then Lemeke Brockington’s most significant moment as a Gopher as he catches the slant and kicks on the after-burners for the go-ahead score.

Wisconsin’s next drive sees Justin Walley grab an interception on a deep ball.

Minnesota runs the ball three times, forcing Wisconsin’s timeouts. And then Matthew Trickett, who hadn’t missed a 40-yard+ field goal all season long (sorta, we’ll get to that later), doinks the right upright. The lead stays at seven with 1:48 left.

Wisconsin takes over at their own 30, and two plays later, QB Graham Mertz is knocked out of the game after a collision with LB Braelen Oliver. He never returns, and that means backup quarterback Chase Wolf comes in cold and leads Wisconsin all the way to the Minnesota 5-yard line. The Badgers have it 1st-and-goal at the Minnesota 5, with 28 seconds left.

Then Wisconsin implodes.

Jah Joyner forces a hold on Minnesota native Riley Mahlman, which backs up Wisconsin to their 15.
False Start puts them at the 20
End zone shot falls incomplete
False Start #2 puts the Badgers at the 25
False Start #3 puts Wisconsin at their 30

25 (!!) yards in penalties in the final 30 seconds of the game. I’ve never covered something like that before. Just the ultimate meltdown. Minnesota’s defense ends up forcing a 4th down and the pass falls to the turf.

An absolute chaotic final 15 minutes.
