After touchdowns on each of their opening drives, the Browns and Buccaneers struggled to score for the remainder of the first half from Cleveland. The two teams played to a 10-10 draw at intermission.

Cleveland drew first blood when Anthony Schwartz scored on a reverse from 31 yards out. Tampa Bay countered with Tom Brady’s 10-yard pass to Chris Godwin. Down 10-7 late in the half, four completions from Brady to Godwin set up Ryan Succop’s 42-yard, game-tying field goal with 39 seconds left in the half. The Browns’ Hail Mary on the final play of the half was corralled in the end zone by Buccaneers defensive back Mike Edwards.

While neither cracked 100 yards, both Brady and Jacoby Brissett enjoyed efficient halves. Brady went 12 of 15 for 93 yards, while his counterpart went 12 of 18 for 85 yards. Godwin spearheaded the Buccaneers’ offense with 58 yards on six catches in the game’s first 30 minutes. Cleveland’s offense largely revolved around running back Nick Chubb, who gained 50 all-purpose yards on nine touches.
