\t\t\t\t\tPreparations are underway in Boston for the arrival of the prince and princess of Wales, who are expected to touch down in the city on Wednesday.Prince William and Kate Middleton are scheduled to attend a welcoming ceremony Wednesday at Boston City Hall Plaza. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and Ambassador Caroline Kennedy will be on hand to greet them. The prince and princess are going to Boston for the second annual Earthshot Prize awards ceremony. Inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s “moonshot” speech, the Earthshot Prize is a global environmental prize that aims to discover and celebrate the best solutions to help repair the planet within the next decade. While in town, the British royals will tour the city to learn about how it’s taking action to combat the effects of climate change.”I think it’s it’s great that they’re talking about climate. I work in the climate space, so I think it’s great that they’re coming to an event for an issue that is very much up and coming,” said Josh, of Boston. The Earthshot Prize ceremony will take place Friday night at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway Park. The prince and princess will join activists, policymakers and performers to celebrate this year’s 15 global finalists before the five Earthshot winners are announced.”I think what we can expect is that they’re both going to be putting a spotlight on their projects,” said Nicoletta Gullace, associate professor of history at the University of New Hampshire. “For William, it’s the environment causes, a whole gamut of which is under the auspices of the Earthshot Prize. For Kate, it is her emphasis on her early childhood development.” The welcoming ceremony at City Hall Plaza is open to the public. The prince and princess are expected to arrive at 4:30 pmPrince William visited New Hampshire along with a family school friend in 1992 for a canoe trip in North Conway.Ginger Cox Gatewood’s family was also on that trip. She said the visit was kept secret until Prince William arrived, along with a bodyguard. The activities included canoeing, swinging on rope swings, skipping stones and walking into town to buy penny candy.”It was really fun, and William was so polite and wasn’t coddled at all,” Gatewood said. “He was expected to pitch in just like everyone else. He helped cook.” His bodyguard also enjoyed the trip and returned to New Hampshire three years later with his wife and daughter for a visit.\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
