Frisco (Texas) Reedy high school three-star receiver Kaleb Smith, one of the most talented playmakers in the Lone Star State, has committed to Notre Dame. The one-time Texas Tech pledge opened up his recruitment once the Fighting Irish came calling and he decided to land in South Bend under head coach Marcus Freeman.

The 6-0, 175-pound speedster wanted to get his decision out of the way ahead of this month’s Early Signing Period. Smith will put pen to paper later this month, sign with Notre Dame at that time, and his recruitment will be completely shutdown.

Receiver coach Chansi Stuckey is credited as the lead recruiter behind the commitment of Smith. The two have known each other a while going back to when Stuckey was an assistant on staff at Baylor and they connected once again a few months ago with him now being at Notre Dame.

“I was recruited by coach Stuckey when he was at Baylor,” said Smith before his November official visit to Notre Dame. “About three weeks before he ended up leaving, that’s when they kind of cut off those conversations. That’s pretty much that. Other than that, I don’t have any connections. I’ve just always known it’s been a big-name program ever since I was born. Anytime Notre Dame was on, I’ve never been a super fan or anything, but I ‘ve rooted for them. I feel like I could play in his program, because I know he was in the NFL for some time. I know he has experience and I feel like he’s somebody who can help me perfect my craft and get me to the next level.

“I feel like he’s somebody I could go out and probably go to dinner with or something like that. Just one-on-one,” added Smith of Stuckey. “I feel like he’s a cool, laid-back kind of guy. But I know whenever it comes down to football stuff, it’s all business and that’s the same with me.”

Others that get plenty of credit for this commitment include offensive coordinator Tommy Reeswho connected well with Smith during his official visit, head coach Marcus Freeman and director of recruiting Chad Bowden.

So, what is Notre Dame getting in Smith? What can Fighting Irish fans expect from the playmaker?

“I think I could bring speed, obviously speed, but I think I raise our players level of play to another level,” said Smith. “Just with my competitiveness, I’m always pushing my teammates to be better. I get on the field, obviously I know what I’m doing, but I’m making sure this guy and this guy know what they’re doing, making sure we can execute it the right way and get something out of it.”

According to MaxPreps, Smith has 43 catches for 649 yards and 5 scores through 10 games. The team has played 13 games to date, so these stats don’t reflect is total production as a senior this fall.

Per 247Sports, Smith has an overall rating of an 88. He’s currently just shy of a four-star ranking. He’s also the No. 65 receiver nationally and No. 74 overall talent in the state of Texas this cycle.
