the 2022 FIFA World Cup<\/u> continued Saturday on FOX with the Netherlands defeating the United States 3-1 at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar in the tournament’s first match of the round of 16.<\/p>\n

The Dutch will play Argentina, which defeated Australia on Saturday, in the quarterfinals on Dec. 9 (11 am ET, FOX).<\/p>\n

Here are the top plays!<\/p>\n

Netherlands 3, United States 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

3′: Early for the USMNT!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Christian Pulisic nearly gave the USMNT an early lead but wasn’t able to connect.<\/p>\n

10′: Goal! Netherlands strikes first<\/strong><\/p>\n

Memphis Depay drove a shot from the center of the box to the bottom left corner to give the Dutch a 1-0 lead early. <\/p>\n

That goal gave him sole possession of second place on the all-time scoring list for the Netherlands with 43 goals.<\/p>\n

43′: Laser of a strike almost evens score!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tim Weah drilled a shot on goal, but it was saved, and the Netherlands maintained a 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n

45’+1′: Dutch knock in goal in stoppage time<\/strong><\/p>\n

Denzel Dumfries got his second assist on a shot from Daley Blind that found the back of the net, giving the Dutch a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Pulisic delivered a cross to the middle of the box and Weston McKennie just missed with the header.<\/p>\n

Then, McKennie nearly nailed the USMNT its first goal, but the shot was high from the top of the box.<\/p>\n

60′: First yellow card is awarded<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teun Koopmeiners was shown a yellow card for a bad foul on Pulisic at the one-hour mark.<\/p>\n

71′: What a save!<\/strong><\/p>\n

USMNT keeper Matt Turner kept the deficit at two goals with two point-blank saves right in front of the net.<\/p>\n

75′ So close!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Haji Wright had a shot from a difficult angle on the right, but it was blocked.<\/p>\n

76′: USMNT is on the board!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pulisic had a pass into the box deflected by Wright, and it found the back of the net! <\/p>\n

Shortly after, Blind sent one into the box and Dumfries kicked it past Turner to give the Netherlands a 3-1 lead late in the second half \u2014 and ultimately the win by the same score.<\/p>\n
