ATLANTA — No. 1 Georgia hasn’t won the SEC Championship Game since 2017, but it is looking like that drought will reach an end as the Bulldogs lead No. 14 LSU 42-23 through three quarters. They used a punishing rushing attack in the third quarter, which included a 2-yard touchdown by Kenny McIntosh with 3:32 to play. The Bulldogs are averaging 5.8 yards per rush through three quarters as Kendall Milton leads the way with 96 yards on just six carries.

LSU did have a little bit of life coming out of halftime, though. Redshirt freshman quarterback Garrett Nussmeier stepped in for an injured Jayden Daniels and began to let it rip while bringing much-needed life to the Tigers offense. He hit Malik Nabors for a 34-yard touchdown with 10:33 to play in the quarter, and also tossed a 59-yarder to Nabors a few minutes later. Nussmeier was 5 of 8 for 129 yards and the touchdown to Nabors in the third quarter alone.

The game has been littered with some unusual plays. The Dawgs got a wild interception on the first play of the second quarter when Daniels’ pass to Jack Bech was broken up by safety Christopher Smith only to bounce off Bech’s helmet and get intercepted by linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. Georgia QB Stetson Bennett IV hit Ladd McConkey for a 22-yard touchdown on the next play to make it a 21-7 game. In the first quarter, Georgia’s Nazir Stackhouse blocked a 32-yard field goal attempt from Damian Ramos. The ball nearly came to a stop on the 4-yard line, but Smith picked it up and cruised down the left sideline for a 96-yard touchdown for the game’s first score.

Georgia is 15 minutes away from not only claiming the SEC title but locking up the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff as it seeks to defend its national championship.
