The holiday-themed action-thriller “Violent Night” came in ahead of expectations at the weekend box-office, pulling in $13.3 million from its wide-release debut and coming in not that far behind “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in first place with a further $17.6 million.

‘Wakanda Forever’ has now pulled in $394 million domestically, surpassing the total grosses of “The Batman” ($369M) and “Thor: Love and Thunder” ($343M) to be 2022’s biggest superhero movie. It has racked up a total of $733 million globally.

Elsewhere things were quiet, especially with “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” gone after its one-week engagement.

Disney’s animated feature “Strange World” saw no sophomore bounce, the movie pulling in a mere $4.9 million in its second weekend and now stands at just $42.3 million worldwide.

Searchlight’s “The Menu” came fourth with $3.6 million and now sits at a global total of $47 million. “Devotion” was fifth with a further $2.8 million and a domestic gross of just $13.8 million so far. Even Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” is struggling with a further $1.3 million added to a domestic total of just $5.6 million.

Finally the “Top Gun: Maverick” re-release earned another $700,000 for a domestic total now sitting at $717 million. Everything is seemingly awaiting the arrival of James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” in two weeks.
