Ultimately, he decided it would be best to opt out of the playoffs, continue rehabbing his injury and train for the 2023 NFL draft.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-partner=\"tweetdeck\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\">\n<p>\t\tLove Go Bucks <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VHx8oUKPH4\">pic.twitter.com\/VHx8oUKPH4<\/a>\n\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 JSN (@jaxon_smith1) <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jaxon_smith1\/status\/1599848540775518209?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 5, 2022<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\tThis news puts to rest the season-long question as to whether or not JSN was healthy enough to suit up for the Buckeyes and ends any speculation Ohio State media and fans may have had about the receiver&#8217;s chances to assist the team on its potential national championship run over the next month.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tAbove all else, this news is disappointing, but not because Smith-Njigba is quitting or being selfish, as I have seen some claim.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tInstead, it&#8217;s disappointing because JSN never had the chance to repeat his breakout sophomore season in which he scored nine touchdowns and set school records with 95 receptions and 1.606 yards, capped off with a 15-reception, 347-yard and three-score performance against Utah in the Rose Bowl.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\">\n<p>\t\tAfter many hours of intense research and struggle, I&#8217;ve come to a conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Jaxon Smith-Njigba is pretty darn good at football <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/n24zF2tag9\">pic.twitter.com\/n24zF2tag9<\/a>\n\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 Russell Clay (@RussellJClay) <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RussellJClay\/status\/1511111121113006087?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 4, 2022<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\tIt&#8217;s disappointing because Ohio State fans never had the chance to see what an offense with CJ Stroud throwin&#8217; darts to a fully healthy Smith-Njigba out wide with Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka and Julian Fleming looked like in 2022.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tAnd it&#8217;s disappointing that for some reason I cannot explain, Ohio State lost its best player before the season even really begins every four years dating back to 2014.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\">\n<p>\t\t2014: Braxton Miller<br \/>2018: Nick Bosa<br \/>2022: JSN<br \/>2026: [Ohio State&#8217;s best player&#8217;s season ends before it begins]<\/p>\n<p>go away, monkey&#8217;s paw\n\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 Ramzy Nasrallah (@ramzy) <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ramzy\/status\/1599848727866318849?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 5, 2022<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>\tAs Ramzy said, go away, monkey&#8217;s paw.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>\tAll in all, news of JSN&#8217;s departure cuts deep, and I wish the announcement on Monday would have been that the preseason All-American was set to suit up for the Buckeyes on New Year&#8217;s Eve against the top-seeded Bulldogs.  He is one of the best receivers and Ohio State history and deserved a better hand than what he was dealt in 2022.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>\tNot every story has a happy ending, I guess.  But that doesn&#8217;t mean there weren&#8217;t some good chapters along the way. If what I&#8217;ve seen <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlbertBreer\/status\/1599866894533611520?s=20&amp;t=b5TF03oJ2ZyyoGbN64KVFA\">from a few national pundits<\/a> is correct, it may already be a two-person race between him and Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tIf Bosa won the award, he would accompany former Ohio State linebacker Randy Gradishar as the only Buckeyes to receive the honor, as Gradishar took home the prize in 1978.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tKeep killin&#8217; it, Smaller Bear.  And keep making Buckeye Nation proud.  May the rest of the season be healthy and prosperous as you take down the opposing team&#8217;s quarterback again and again and again.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span class=\"icon-ohio\"> <\/span><strong>NIGHTMARE FUEL. <\/strong>Ohio State and Georgia have only met once on the gridiron.  It was 29 years ago at the 1993 Citrus Bowl.  The Buckeyes lost the matchup, 21-14.  However, UGA head coach Kirby Smart&#8217;s most recent run-in with Ohio State came back in the 2014 CFP semifinal when he was a defensive coordinator for Alabama.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tWhile on a teleconference for the Peach Bowl, Ohio State beat reporter Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch asked Smart to share what he remembers most about the matchup that occurred almost nine years ago.\n<\/p>\n<p>\t&#8220;Long day. It was a long day,&#8221; Smart said.  &#8220;That was Ezekiel Elliott, right?&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\t&#8220;Yep,&#8221; Rabinowitz replied.\n<\/p>\n<p>\t&#8220;He shredded what was a pretty talented Alabama defense,&#8221; Smart said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tWhat Smart meant to say, though, was that Elliott shredded <em>feeling <\/em>pretty talented Alabama defense.  And, folks, the word &#8220;shredded&#8221; might not do Elliott&#8217;s performance justice.  The ever-talented running back carried the ball 20 times for 230 yards and two touchdowns and added one catch for 13 yards in the contest.  Let&#8217;s just say Zeke was well-fed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tOh, and he went 85 yards Through the Heart of the South.\n<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"ast-oembed-container\" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ezekiel Elliott DESTROYS The BEST Defense in College Football!\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g6fLiyZCxKg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>\tIt wouldn&#8217;t surprise me if Smart still has nightmares about Zeke&#8217;s field day against Alabama that year.  It&#8217;s kind of funny to think about, really \u2013 a national championship-winning head coach beside himself thinking about a running back taking his defensive game plan and setting it on fire, because that&#8217;s exactly what Elliott did that year.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tWhile Day wasn&#8217;t around for Ohio State&#8217;s national championship run in 2014, he has kept the program&#8217;s same approach of explosive offensive play.  He has also recruited at an extremely high level in the last few seasons and has plenty of weapons at his disposal within the Buckeye offense.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tWith that in mind, Day should have one goal for New Year&#8217;s Eve: Create new nightmares for Smart.  I can&#8217;t wait to see if he makes that happen.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span class=\"icon-ohio\"> <\/span><strong>A COMMON THEME. <\/strong>Ohio State entered the 2014 College Football Playoff as the No.  4 seed and received a matchup with top-seeded Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tAs mentioned above, the Buckeyes beat the Tide in a game that felt like Elliott rushed for what felt like 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns.  Then, Ohio State boat raced Oregon, 42-20, in the national championship behind another solid outing from Zeke, who rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns on 36 carries to down the Ducks.\n<\/p>\n<p>\tWith Ohio State entering this year&#8217;s CFP as the No.  4 seed again, is it possible the Buckeyes can repeat the success they were able to have nine years ago?\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-partner=\"tweetdeck\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\">\n<p>\t\tlast time <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OhioStateFB?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@OhioStateFB<\/a> was No.  4 <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ze0POFBYuA\">pic.twitter.com\/ze0POFBYuA<\/a>\n\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\u2014 Ohio State on BTN (@OhioStateOnBTN) <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OhioStateOnBTN\/status\/1599455993888268288?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 4, 2022<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>\tIf they do, that would be a 100% national title efficiency rate for Ohio State as the fourth-seeded team, and therefore means the Buckeyes can only accept No.  4 seeds from this point forward.
