UPDATE: A new report states that Wonder Woman 3 has been canceled and that a Black Adam sequel is now “unlikely” as the DCU plans change under Safran and Gunn.

The recently released Black Man may not have been a huge success at the box office, but a recent report from Deadline suggests the film won’t be a failure and will even spawn more movies.

In the report, Deadline spoke with Joe Singer, a producer and financier of films, who stated that any claims that Black Man will lose money are “false,” and that it “may be considered disappointing since it had Dwayne Johnson in a DC movie. However, the picture will pass break-even and throw off a bit of profit.”

Singer also talks about the future of Black Man and how setting up sequels will help keep the franchise sustainable in the long-term, as well as help it continue to make money. To that end, Deadline noted in a since-deleted section of the report that a direct sequel to Black Man is in development, as is a spin-off movie focused on Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman.

“All of this, including a B+ CinemaScore, is good enough for Black Man to be a franchise starter (read the first Captain America made $370M WW), with Black Man 2 and a Hawkeye [sic] spinoff already being mapped out by Johnson’s Seven Bucks. Note, the franchise will come to a greater realization once newly installed DC heads Peter Safran and James Gunn unveil their plans early next year,” reads the section of the report, which has since been removed without any editor’s note explaining why.

Black Man features the introduction of Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam or the titular anti-hero, whose background story was first teased during 2019’s Shazam! This marks the character’s live-action debut after only appearing in animated shows and films such as Young Justice.

Joining Johnson are Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Aldis Hodge as Hawkman. Other cast members include Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui, Mo Amer, and Uli Latukefu.

UPDATE: A new report states that Wonder Woman 3 has been canceled and that a Black Adam sequel is now “unlikely” as the DCU plans change under Safran and Gunn.
