Celine Dion is postponing several Europe tour dates after the recent diagnosis of a rare brain disorder that doesn’t allow her \u201cto sing the way I’m used to,\u201d.\n <\/p>\n

\n

The superstar singer has stiff-person syndrome, which affects \u201csomething like one in a million people,\u201d Dion, 54, said in an emotional video post Thursday to her verified Instagram account.\n <\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWhile we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms that I’ve been having,\u201d she said. \u201cUnfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n

Stiff-person syndrome is \u201ca rare, progressive syndrome that affects the nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord,\u201d according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.\n <\/p>\n

\n

\u201cSymptoms may include extreme muscle stiffness, rigidity and painful spasms in the trunk and limbs, severely impairing mobility,\u201d the institute says. \u201cSpasms can generate enough force to fracture bone.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n

Specific treatments \u201cwill improve the symptoms \u2026 but will not cure the disorder,\u201d it says.\n <\/p>\n

\n

Dion has struggled with her health for a while, she said, adding she has a great team of medical professionals and her children’s support.\n <\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI’m working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day to build back my strength and my ability to perform again,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I have to admit it’s been a struggle.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n

The Grammy winner said singing is all she knows \u2013 and what she loves.\n <\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI miss you so much,\u201d she said. \u201cI miss seeing all of you, being on the stage, performing for you. I always give 100% when I do my shows, but my condition is not allowing me to give you that right now.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n

Dion has \u201chope that I’m on the road to recovery,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is my focus.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n

She thanked her followers for their \u201cencouraging wishes of love and support by social media.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThis means a lot to me,\u201d Dion concluded her message tearfully. \u201cTake care of yourselves. be well. I love you guys so much, and I really hope I can see you again real soon.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

Dion’s spring 2023 shows will be rescheduled to 2024, and eight summer 2023 will be canceled, the post said.\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
