Announced by developer Guerrilla Games in a trailer at The Game AwardsHorizon Forbidden West is officially getting DLC - but only for PlayStation 5.

Arriving on April 19, 2023, the Burning Shores DLC will take Aloy to Los Angeles, complete with the Hollywood sign on display (and immediately destroyed by a giant robot). According to a post on the PlayStation blog, Guerrilla explained that “to achieve this grand vision technically and creatively, we’ve made the difficult decision to focus all our efforts on making an incredible experience exclusively for the PlayStation®5 console.”

According to that post, the DLC has Aloy in pursuit of a “sinister threat”, and that the LA region has become a volcanic archipelago. “She will be traveling to a dangerous new region south of the Tenakth Clan Lands, featuring a compelling storyline following from where Horizon Forbidden West ended, new characters, adventures, and more.”

Forbidden West is the long awaited sequel to 2017’s Horizon: Zero Dawn and saw the return of protagonist Alloy as she explored, well, the forbidden west, which includes decrepit versions of cities including Las Vegas and San Francisco.

Released in February 2022, the sequel will follow in the footsteps of the original in getting a major expansion, as The Frozen Wilds DLC was released for Zero Dawn in November 2017.
