Elden Ring may have taken home the top honor of Game of the Year at The Game Awards tonight, but From Software’s spotlight was interrupted by an unexpected Stage Crasher who was promptly arrested.

While four members of the Elden Ring development team could be seen on the livestream passing out high-fives as they walked up toward the stage, a fifth unidentified person then came down a separate aisle to casually join them for the award acceptance.

He simply hung in the back and clapped along during Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki’s acceptance speech (seemingly looking toward a monitor to make sure he could be seen on camera for his six seconds of unwelcome fame), but he pushed forward to take the mic himself right afterward.

While the final music was already playing, he said the following to a confused crowd: “Hey, my turn. You know, real quick, I want to thank everybody and say I think I want to nominate [sic] this award to my reformed orthodox rabbi, Bill Clinton. Thank you everybody.”

The FromSoft team seemed confused about what was happening, and it quickly became clear this wasn’t planned. The broadcast camera also pulled super far out, presumably once producers realized what was going on, and people in black suits could be seen approaching the unknown person before escorting him off stage without much further fuss.

Shortly after the show, host Geoff Keighley tweeted that “the individual who interrupted our Game of the Year moment has been arrested.”

Just in case it needs to be said, don’t do this, people. While the end result was a strange speech in a highly-watched broadcast, stage crashers have been known to cause real harm. We don’t want to make light of this unprecedented act.
