Gearbox Publishing and developer Gunfire Games have announced that looter shooter Remnant 2 will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC in 2023.

Revealed with a 30 second trailer (and an extended version available below) at The Game Awards 2022, the three-person cooperative shooter will make a return with even more deadly worlds, unique loot, and ghastly beasts.

“Remnant 2 plunges players deeper into a devastated world requiring a mix of methodical and frenetic ranged and melee combat against cunning enemies and punishing boss battles,” the game’s synopsis reads. “Enter the fray as a lone- wolf or even the odds by teaming up with two friends to overcome daunting challenges.”

Each new playthrough puts players in a procedurally generated world that pulls together different locations, enemies, NPC,s bosses, and weapons to give each run a unique feel. A reworked archetype system also allows for more character customization and better synergy when playing in co-op.

“We are excited to delve back into the world of Remnant with the team at Gearbox Publishing,” said Gunfire Games founder and CEO David Adams. “There are so many interesting stories to tell, vicious enemies to vanquish, exciting loot to grab, Archetypes to experiment with, and heart-pumping action for players to experience with their friends. We can’t wait for everyone to play it next year “

The original Remnant, subtitled From the Ashes, was released in 2019. In our 8/10 review, IGN said: “Remnant: From the Ashes is a co-op action-RPG that’s punishing and grotesque, but exciting and beautiful all at the same time. Despite the occasional difficulty spikes and slightly disappointing gear system, the thrill of finally beating a boss that’s had your number for hours is unmatched.”
