When Willis (TX) five-star 2024 quarterback DJ Lagway set his decision date, he did so knowing he wanted to get his commitment out of the way so he can hit the ground running to recruit others to join him. He’s since made his commitment to the University of Florida, giving the Gators a big time name to work on helping build up the 2024 recruiting class. Even though he’s only a few days removed from making his decision, Lagway has already been forming his plan of action with the Florida staff on how they are going to work together to reel in some big names.

“We have been talking about getting out in front of this thing, and trying to recruit these players,” he said of his conversations with UF since the decision. “Trying to talk to as many players as I can, so I can maker sure we have the top class in the country.”

Lagway has been taking in names the Gators want him to target, but also has been giving some of his own input.

“It’s kind of been a mixture so far. They have some guys they have told me to go for, but I gave my ideas too of who I think. We have kind of combined forces here, and I just have been talking to everyone and making relationships with all kinds of players from everywhere. I am just excited to do that.”

Not only is Lagway expected to be a relentless recruiter for the Orange and Blue, but four-star commit Myles Graham has also been active as well. The two have outgoing personalities, and Lagway feels they have a chance to be a dynamic duo on the trail for the Gators.

“Me and Myles have a great relationship. We have always bonded over things at Florida when we have both visited. We both thought Florida was the best match for both of us. I am excited to play with him and for both of us to keep building this class so we can have more dynamic characters and playmakers. I think both of us are big time players, and noticeable guys, but on top of that, I would say we are both high character guys. We can lead this class and attract other players. Make these guys feel appreciated and have some camaraderie with us.”

Lagway is planning to start quickly with targeting some names to help build an offensive class around him. He plans to target both the trenches and skill positions early on.

“Definitely the o-line is going to be a big one for me. Those guys are the ones who protect me and without them, I would be nothing. I want to get some o-linemen. That is the main thing. I want some receivers for sure too. Jeremiah Smith is a big one on our board, so I am going to try and get him and I talk to him daily. Him and Joshisa Trader is another one as well. I would also say I like players like Ryan Wingo and Micah Hudson too They play on my 7on7 team this year, so I am excited to play with them. Hopefully we have a good 7on7 year and it builds the chemistry and makes them want to come to Florida. I want to get the best guys around Florida and also around Texas. There are a lot of cats from Texas who would love to have the opportunity to play at Florida, so we are trying to get everyone and I am going to be talking to everybody. Just build this dynamic class up.”

Lagway mentioned it’s possible for him to visit Florida this coming weekend, but plans are not set in stone. He would need to continue to talk abut travel plans with his family.
