That was well above the other big trailers released last Thursday (courtesy of CCXP), namely \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy Vol.  3\u201d (182 million) and \u201cIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny\u201d (77 million).<\/p>\n<p>Measured viewership was at 238 million on day one alone, above any previous theatrical trailer in Paramount&#8217;s history, and in fourth place for that first 24-hour cycle behind only the second \u201cAvengers: Endgame\u201d trailer (268 million), the first \u201cAvengers : Endgame\u201d trailer (289 million) and the first trailer to Sony&#8217;s \u201cSpider-Man: No Way Home\u201d (355.5 million).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also Read:<\/strong><br \/>First &#8216;Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.  3&#8217; Trailer Emerges from Deep Space (Video)<\/p>\n<p>The trailer has been shared nearly 400,000 times to date, while the official TikTok post of the trailer from the ParamountPics TikTok account is the most-shared published in calendar year 2022 by any studio-wide or film-specific TikTok account.  The closest runner-up is Universal&#8217;s \u201cJurassic World Dominion,\u201d whose second trailer was shared 185,000 times thus far this year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-iframe-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"caas-iframe youtube\" style=\"padding-bottom:56%;\" data-type=\"youtube\">\n<blockquote data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/WWWDskI46Js?feature=oembed\"><p><noscript><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/WWWDskI46Js?feature=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Trailer viewership measurement is not an exact science.  Moreover, apples-to-apples comparisons are not always possible due to technology limitations of Instagram and Twitter or the newness of platforms like TikTok.<\/p>\n<p>With the obvious caveat that trailer views don&#8217;t correlate 1-to-1 to eventual box office any more than does advance-ticket sales (recall that \u201cSolo: A Star Wars Story\u201d had better first-day ticket sales than \u201cBlack Panther) \u201d), this massive viewership sprint does show that there&#8217;s at least some casual curiosity in this newest attempt to expand what was once Paramount&#8217;s biggest franchise.<\/p>\n<p><button class=\"link caas-button collapse-button\" aria-label=\"\" title=\"\" data-ylk=\"elm:readmore;slk:Story continues\">Story continues<\/button><\/p>\n<p>The first Michael Bay-directed \u201cTransformers\u201d films were game-changing box office hits in the late-2000&#8217;s\/early 2010&#8217;s, temporarily sitting alongside the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d series, the \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d films, the \u201cShrek\u201d franchise and the \u201cSpider-Man\u201d trilogy atop the franchise blockbuster tentpole mountain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also Read:<\/strong><br \/>&#8216;Indiana Jones 5&#8217; Director James Mangold Rips &#8216;Trolling A-Holes&#8217; for Spreading False Rumors<\/p>\n<p>While domestic interest peaked with \u201cRevenge of the Fallen\u201d ($409 million in 2009) and \u201cDark of the Moon\u201d ($355 million in 2011), 3D bumps for \u201cDark of the Moon\u201d in 2011 and a shrewd bet on China with \u201c Age of Extinction\u201d (which set its entire third act in Hong Kong and featured Chinese government officials racing to the rescue) pushed those films over $1 billion worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransformers: The Last Knight\u201d tumbled in 2017, earning just $131 million domestic, $228 million in China (compared to $300 million for \u201cAge of Extinction\u201d) and $605 million worldwide;  and the cheaper, better-reviewed, Travis Knight-directed 80&#8217;s prequel \u201cBumblebee\u201d earned $127 million\/$171 million\/$471 million in 2018 on a $135 million budget.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, it&#8217;s been an open question as to the overall IP value of the \u201cTransformers\u201d films versus the of-the-moment appeal of the Michael Bay-directed epics that provided bigger thrills, larger scale and a certain surreal vulgarity that audiences couldn&#8217;t &#8216;t get anywhere else.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-iframe-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"caas-iframe youtube\" style=\"padding-bottom:56%;\" data-type=\"youtube\">\n<blockquote data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/QZ9tE6AfczE?feature=oembed\"><p><noscript><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/QZ9tE6AfczE?feature=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>If this first trailer drop is any indication, there&#8217;s some hope that absence has made the heart grow fonder, or perhaps that the \u201cBeast Wars\u201d iteration of the animated IP is popular enough in its own right to spur renewed interest.  \u201cBeast Wars: Transformers\u201d ran from 1996 to 1999 and was one of the first CGI animated shows in network\/syndicated television.<\/p>\n<p>Set 300 years after the events of the initial \u201cTransformers\u201d animated show, the variation is credited with saving the \u201cTransformers\u201d IP and (thanks to strong writing meant to compete with \u201cBatman: The Animated Series,\u201d \u201cGargoyles\u201d and \u201cX -Men\u201d) is often considered the best of the bunch. However, after the 2022 that Paramount has had with seemingly dead IP like \u201cScream,\u201d \u201cJackass\u201d and \u201cTop Gun\u201d (along with turning \u201cSonic the Hedgehog\u201d into a successful new-to-cinema franchise), the resurgent studio may have earned the benefit of the doubt.  Moreover, the use of this specific version of \u201cTransformers,\u201d a popular variation (especially among certain ages) shows the wisdom of emphasizing the specific over the abstract.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransformers: Rise of the Beasts\u201d isn&#8217;t just \u201cOh, another &#8216;Transformers&#8217; movie.\u201d  The film, starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback and featuring the first live-action, big-screen appearance of Optimus Primal (Ron Perlman) and Arce (Liza Koshy), is being sold as the first \u201cBeast Wars\u201d movie.<\/p>\n<p>That may be enough to make something old seem very new when the Paramount\/Hasbro production opens on June 9, 2023.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first teaser trailer for \u201cTransformers: Rise of the Beasts\u201d has become one of the most-watched trailers ever.
