WWE brought some big matches to the ring for Monday Night Raw. Among those matches were two to crown No. 1 contenders to major championships.

Alexa Bliss kicked off the show in a big way, beating Bayley to earn a spot as the No. 1 contender to Bianca Belair and the Raw women’s championship. On the men’s side, it was Seth Rollins who outlasted Bobby Lashley, earning a shot at United States champion Austin Theory.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.

Two No. 1 content determined

Alexa Bliss def. Bayley via pinfall to become the No. 1 container for the Raw women’s championship. Before the start of the match, Becky Lynch ran to ringside and attacked IYO SKY and Dakota Kai, chasing both women off with a chair and leaving Bayley without her backup. Bianca Belair came to ringside to see which woman would earn a shot at her championship. Belair sat as a bystander until Bayley removed a turnbuckle pad, at which point she alerted the referee. After some back and forth with Belair in the mix, Bliss managed to win with Twisted Bliss. After the match, Belair and Bliss went to share a hug before Bray Wyatt’s moth logo flashed on the Tron and Bliss lined up to hit Sister Abigail on the champion but came to her senses and did not follow through on the move, apologizing and leaving the ring.

Seth Rollins def. Bobby Lashley via pinfall to become the No. 1 contender to the United States championship. Lashley had the Hurt Lock locked in when Rollins knocked the referee from the ring. The ref was slow to get back into the ring after Lashley hit a spear and shortly after, Rollins countered another spear into a pedigree to win the match. A furious Lashley accidentally elbowed a second referee after the match, the second consecutive week he struck a WWE official. Adam Pearce confronted Lashley reminding him that he said last week that another such incident would result in consequences. Lashley shoved Pearce and Pearce responded by firing Lashley as the show went off the air.

Both matches were solid on in-ring action and storyline building. The continued teases of Bliss reuniting with Wyatt will always get the crowd fired up and the Lashley story is intriguing if nothing else. Bliss vs. Belair is a fresh match, which is always appreciated. Rollin vs. Theory isn’t entirely fresh but as long as the match is a televised contest, there’s nothing wrong with that. Grade: B+
