\t\t\t\t\tNew England Patriots great Willie McGinest, who is a member of the team’s Hall of Fame, has been charged in connection with an assault that happened at a West Hollywood nightclub.The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said the assault happened Dec. 9 at a club located on the 7900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard and that witnesses identified McGinest as one of the people involved in the incident.McGinest, 51, arrived at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station on Monday to provide a statement regarding the incident. Once the interview was over, authorities said McGinest was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. The sheriff’s office said McGinest posted $30,000 bond and was released from custody shortly after 9:45 am Pacific time. The LA County Sheriff’s West Hollywood Detective Bureau will handle the investigation.Security video obtained by TMZ appears to show McGinest punching a man seated inside the nightclub and eventually hitting him with a bottle.McGinest, a Long Beach native, was selected by the Patriots with the 4th overall pick in the 1994 NFL draft out of the University of Southern California.He played his first 12 NFL seasons with New England as a defensive end and outside linebacker, winning three Super Bowls with the Pats (2001, 2003 and 2004). McGinest ranks third in Patriots history with 78 regular-season sacks and his 16 postseason sacks are an NFL record.He played his final three seasons with the Cleveland Browns and retired from the NFL after the 2008 campaign.McGinest was able to retire with the Patriots by signing a one-day contract with New England during his Patriots Hall of Fame induction ceremony in August 2015.Since retiring from football, McGinest has worked as a television analyst and i s currently employed by the NFL Network.NFL Network said in a statement sent to multiple media outlets that McGinest will not appear on air while it reviews the matter.\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
