One of the biggest recruiting stories of the 2023 cycle happened on Tuesday, a day before the early signing period commences.

Kadyn Proctor, the best offensive line recruit in the country, has flipped from his home-state Iowa Hawkeyes to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The 6-foot-7, 330-pounder released his decision on social media, quickly changing his bio to reflect his future. It follows a weekend visit to Tuscaloosa where Proctor spent time with Ty Simpson and other members of the team.

It’s a massive win for his future position coach Eric Wolford and fellow Tide assistant Freddie Roach — whose additions this year place him among the best recruiters in the nation. The decision also secures Alabama’s rank as the top recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports Composite.

“Home away from home. Roll Tide,” Proctor tweeted after announcing he was “home” with the Hawkeyes Iowa six months ago.

An official visit to Alabama on June 10 wasn’t enough to sway Proctor then, who chose the Hawkeyes later that month. But the Tide pressed, clearly identifying Proctor as a difference-maker. Saban and Oregon head coach Dan Lanning made in-home trips, with Saban stopping by on Dec. 2.

Despite a rare two-loss, playoff-less season for the Tide, elite high schoolers are still opting to join a dynasty. Proctor is ranked as the 12th-best senior in the country, giving the Tide three signees in the top 15 (Keon Keeley and Caleb Downs), most of any program.

Meanwhile, Iowa went 7-5 under Kirk Ferentz, reaching the Music City Bowl on Dec. 31 against Kentucky. Proctor spurned a local development system that’s produced first-round NFL Draftees like Tristan Wirfs in favor of Nick Saban’s.

The Tide has developed eight first-round offensive linemen since 2008, including one in each of the last four draft classes. (Iowa has six first-round linemen drafted in the last 20 years.) Proctor will likely remain at tackle, giving Alabama five offensive linemen to add to the 2023 roster.

247sports national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu on Proctor’s skillset: “Still does not have any obvious big weak points, but continued technical development and then adjusting to college level competition will help ensure he reaches his upside. He has the physical ability to play very early and can be an All-American and early draft choice. ”

Proctor won a state title with Southeast (Iowa) Polk this fall, going 12-1 in Class 5A. He’s set to sign his national letter of intent tomorrow at 8:45 am in the Rams’ auditorium.
