Top247 offensive tackle Oluwatosin Babalade decommitted from South Carolina last week, and now he is back in the class.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Babalade gave Maryland a strong look in the last week, but opted to recommit to the Gamecocks.

“I thought about it and I saw how everybody was still reaching out to me,” he said. “Playing time was an important role for me. They are going to be playing a lot of younger guys like me so it was just better for me to go down there.”

Babalade committed to South Carolina on Aug. 5 after having a long-standing top five that also included Maryland, Rutgers, Ohio State and North Carolina.

So even after he decided to open his recruitment last week, South Carolina did not waiver in its pursuit or interest of him, and that made a mark on him.

“They reached out to me almost every day since I decommitted,” Babalade said. “They’ve been on me a lot. It shows how they are going to be when I get there. They are not going to give up on me.”

Throughout the process Babalade built a strong relationship with offensive line coach Greg Adkinsand even after the decommitment the two continued to speak regularly.

The trust Babalade had in him never waivered, and made it easy to go back to the Gamecocks.

“I like everything about him,” Babalade said. “He’s just a great coach. I like his assistant coach, Lonnie Teasley, too. Great dude. Great family. They are just all supportive.”

Babalade acknowledged the recruiting process was “sometimes kind of confusing but I had a little fun,” but he is glad to be settled and ready to sign Wednesday.

Once he is bound to the Gamecocks with his signing of the letter of intent, Babalade is looking forward to getting his workout regimen from the strength and conditioning staff and working to improve his game.

And while there will be a lot of areas of focus, Babalade has one in mind.

“Still run blocking,” he said. “I did it way better this year but I just have to get better at it every year.”

Babalade is part of South Carolina’s push into the mid-Atlantic region with assistant coach Pete Lembo.

The Gamecocks also landed four-star edge Desmond Umeozul of Upper Marlboro (Md.) Flowers, defensive back Zahbari Sandy of Washington (DC) St. John’s and receiver Tyshawn Russell of Harrisburg (Pa.) Bishop McDevitt.
