Four-star defensive lineman Elijah Davis announced his commitment to the South Carolina Gamecocks football team on Tuesday.

Davis was the recipient of Shane Beamer’s second #WelcomeHome tweet this past Thursday night. A 2021 graduate of Wagener Salley (SC) High School, Davis just wrapped up his second season at East Mississippi CC.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Davis is the No. 3-ranked JUCO prospect in the class of 2023. Tennessee South Carolina’s primary challenger.

Several SEC schools offered, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida and Mississippi State.

Defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey and tight ends coach Jody Wright both significant played roles in recruiting him for the Gamecocks. Coach Shane Beamer was also involved.

“I like (Beamer) a lot, he’s cool,” Davis said, following his official visit in October. “You can tell he’s a family guy. That’s a thing that I like. Keeping the coaches connected to the players, that’s something I really look at.”

That weekend, Lindsey had a simple message for Davis.

“They were saying they need a guy like me, to come in, plug and play (since) Zach Pickens is leaving,” Davis said.

In 11 games as a sophomore at East Mississippi, Davis had 35 tackles, including 3.5 for loss with three sacks. As a freshman, he finished with 25 tackles, including 2.5 for loss over 10 games.

Davis listed offers from Campbell, Chattanooga, East Carolina, Georgia State, Kansas, North Texas, South Carolina, West Virginia and Western Kentucky coming out of high school. Because he wasn’t a full-qualifier, he went the junior college route.

At the time, Davis was the No. 93-ranked defensive lineman in the country. He was 10th among all class of 2021 prospects from the state of South Carolina.

Davis joins Xzavier McLeod (Canden, SC) and Zavion Hardy (Macon, Ga.) as the third defensive tackle commitment for South Carolina’s 2023 recruiting class. The Gamecocks also list commitments from defensive ends Desmond Umeozul (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Monteque Rhames (Manning, SC).
