Deion Sanders, who was hired as Colorado’s coach on Dec. 3, inked his first recruiting class with the Buffaloes on Wednesday.

Though many expected there to be fireworks despite the fact Prime Time only had three weeks to work before the early signing period began, it was more of a reshuffling than anything. Colorado moved on from 13 players who were committed to the previous staff while adding a few new pieces, including four-star running back Dylan Edwards of Derby (Kansas) High.

Colorado’s 2023 recruiting class currently has 16 commitments and sits as the No. 58 team nationally in the 247Sports Composite. Here’s what you need to know from the first day of the early signing period for Colorado:

Sanders is a one-man wrecking ball. His persona as one of the greatest cornerbacks who has ever lived has transformed into Coach Prime, the coach who can be a menace on the recruiting front regardless of where he’s at.

When Colorado opted to hire him, it didn’t matter to Sanders where it was located or how much in-state talent would be available to him. Sanders knew he would draw all the talent he needed to turn around the program as long as it had Power 5 resources.

Though nothing earth-shattering has happened at Colorado yet, it seems like a matter of when, not if, big-time players come into the mix.

If you look around the Pac-12, there are big-time coaches all over the place, which should elevate the results on the field for the conference.

Colorado was supposed to be one of the hopeless places in the Pac-12, the built-in cellar-dweller that other programs walked through on the conference schedule.

But when Sanders arrived at Colorado, it made the program an instant factor in a conference that is getting better by the minute. The ceiling for Colorado is untouched with Sanders leading the way and it’ll be wildly entertaining to see how quickly he can flip the roster.

This signing day may not have been the biggest show, but the transfer portal — where Hunter and Sanders’ son, Shedeur, currently sit — could be two very talented players joining the Buffaloes’ roster in the near future.
