Deion Sanders is starting to get rolling in the Rocky Mountains. Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes added Travis Hunter to their 2023 roster overhaul on Wednesday night, when Hunter — the top-ranked transfer — announced he’d follow Sanders from Jackson State to Colorado.

With a rating of 99, Hunter is the top-ranked player in the 2023 247Sports Transfer Portal Player Rankings. He’s the second high-profile transfer to commit to Colorado on Signing Day, joining Deion’s last quarterback Shedeur Sanders (92 ratings).

Colorado’s transfer haul ranks No. 7 nationally per 247Sports and is good enough to boost Colorado to a current top-30 overall class in 2023 (transfers plus recruits) despite a pure recruiting class that still ranks in the 50s. 247Sports is able to calculate top individual recruiting classes, top individual transfer classes and then the combined class ranking (recruits and transfers).

Sixteen recruits signed a letter of intent with Colorado on Wednesday and while the Buffaloes’ score of No. 53 in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings won’t blow anybody away, it does include two four-star prospects; Colorado did not sign any four-star recruits in 2022. On the transfer side, Shedeur Sanders is considered a four-star prospect because of his low-90s transfer rating and Hunter is a bona seedling five-star thanks to his 99 score. In fact, Hunter is the first five-star football prospect of either the recruiting or transfer variety to ink with Colorado since running back Darrell Scott in 2007.

Facing a massive roster overhaul and without the impediment of any counter restrictions per class, Sanders and his new staff are certain to add a ton of new faces between now and February.
