Bauer publicly denied striking the woman. The law enforcement investigation of Bauer ended with no charges in February, when prosecutors said following \u201ca thorough review of all the available evidence\u201d that they \u201cwere unable to prove the relevant charges beyond a reasonable doubt.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A judge denied his initial accuser, a California woman, a restraining order. Bauer filed a lawsuit against her in April, days before MLB’s announcement of his two-year suspension, claiming she lured him into increasingly rough sex with her \u2014 including in text messages in which she urged him to give her \u201call the pain\u201d \u2014 to \u201clay the groundwork for a financial settlement.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

One of Bauer’s accusers who tested against him in the hearing \u2014 a woman from Columbus, Ohio, who alleged in an article in The Post that he repeatedly choked her unconscious and slapped and anally penetrated her without her consent during a years-long relationship \u2014 said Thursday night that she expected his suspension to be reduced \u201cto some degree.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cSo I’m not surprised,\u201d she added. \u201cI’m just glad that his suspension was upheld, and even though he’s coming back way sooner than I think he should be, I hope that this sends a message that this kind of behavior isn’t okay and that there’s a precedent set about how this will be handled in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
