The South Carolina Gamecocks have their 2023 quarterback.

four-star LaNorris Sellers announced on Friday morning that he flipped from Syracuse to South Carolina. The decision was revealed on the final day of the Early Signing Period, during a ceremony at South Florence High School

According to the 247Sports Composite, Sellers is the No. 26-ranked quarterback in the country. He’s listed fifth among all prospects from the state of South Carolina.

Twenty days before Sellers announced his decision to sign with the Gamecocks, the three-star signal-caller led South Florence to a 4A state championship at Benedict College. Several coaches from Shane Beamer‘s staff were on hand to watch as Sellers completed 10-of-14 passes for 260 yards and five touchdowns, to go along with 192 yards and a touchdown rushing.

“He’s made everyone around him better, and when it seems like a defense has an answer for everything, he just refuses to get tackled,” South Florence coach Drew Marlowe said, following the 57-30 win over Northwestern.

“He refuses to get tackled. That dude is an unbelievable player. I’m so happy that he had a night like tonight in this game.”

As a senior, Sellers thew for 2,949 yards with 45 touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 1,337 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Sellers, who will enroll at South Carolina in January, committed to Syracuse this past March. He first committed to Virginia in July before his junior year.

Beamer told him about his offer from the Gamecocks on Oct. 22.

“He was just like, they love what I’m about on the field and off the field and I was a great player, and that it would be stupid not to offer an instate player like me,” Sellers said.

Newly-hired offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains was on the phone with Sellers earlier this month, just hours after his contract was approved by the university’s Board of Trustees.

“(Loggains) likes to build the offense around the strength of the player that he has, so if the quarterback can run it – he wants the quarterback to be able to extend and make plays, but he wants the offense to fit around what ( players) can and can’t do, if that makes sense,” Sellers said.

Georgia Tech and Liberty offered Sellers earlier this month. Appalachian State, Georgia State, Memphis, Virginia Tech and Washington State were among his other offers.

Sellers was named Offensive MVP for the South Carolina side in the Shrine Bowl. He was a finalist for the state Football award, which went to fellow South Carolina signee Xzavier McLeoda four-star defensive tackle from Camden.

South Carolina has the No. 16-ranked recruiting class for the 2023 cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite. The Gamecocks also list a commitment from 2024 four-star quarterback Dante Reno (Fiskdale, Mass.).
