Last month, Capcom teamed up with Glico to create a new, free version of Street Fighter 2 that brings the Pocky back into the fight. That’s right, Street Fighter 2: Pocky Edition is available to those who purchase specially marked packages of the Japanese snack, and it functions very similarly to the Street Fighter 5: Pocky Edition we saw back at Capcom Cup 2019.

While the game itself looks cool, some official artwork from legendary Capcom artist Shinkiro has been released for the game, and it is too damn good not to talk about. Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama has shared several of these art pieces over on Twitter for fans to enjoy.

Shinkiro’s style is very distinct and incredibly well-known in the community. Veering away from the more anime and cartoon-like styles we often see our favorite Capcom fighting game characters depicted in, this illustrator opts for a more realistic and detailed look for his art pieces.

He has famously created artwork for both SNK and Capcom over the years, but fans might know him best for his work on the Capcom vs. SNK series. Outside of that, Shinkiro’s portfolio extends out to promotional art for all kinds of different games, including the Street Fighter 4 series, Street Fighter 5: Type Arcade, and plenty more.

Now, the artist has put together pieces of the initial 12 Street Fighter 2 characters for the new Pocky Edition, and his artwork looks as good as ever here. Naturally, each of the world warriors can be seen with the snack in hand, and the illustrations feature two fighters paired up per art piece.

Chun-Li and Ryu can be seen holding a Pocky stick each and offering it to their fellow Street Fighter, while Blanka and Vega seem to be hoarding their snacks for themselves.

It’s interesting to see Capcom enlist Shinkiro for promotional art for a free smartphone and PC game that is just an altered version of a past classic, but hey, we’re not complaining. Check out these awesome Street Fighter 2: Pocky Edition promotional pieces below.
