While Destiny 2 may not be launching any giant secret missions like Whisper or Zero Hour this season, its dedicated exotic mission, Operation Seraph’s Shield, has its fair share of secrets, including one in particular that was revealed this week.

spoilers follow, and I highly suggest if you care, you go around shooting all 50 orbs which opens the mysterious door above to reveal what I’m talking about. It’s best left a surprise. The final 12 are available this week if you pick the “security clearance” upgrade which gets you through locked doors on the station. Technically, there are other doorways rigged with lasers that are supposed to block you until next week when you can purchase an additional upgrade, but you can get past them with shoulder charge, blinking, Mask of Bakris or Eager Edge sword swipes, which is what I did yesterday. So yeah, go do that, and then come back and read this.

There is an initial, less secret prize for getting all 50 orbs, a Rasputin-themed sparrow that looks pretty cool. But there’s more than that, and this was something that I don’t believe was fully discovered or datamined until this week, given that it’s not a literal piece of loot. It’s…something else.

It’s…a dog. A Braytech robo-dog, specifically.

The door actually leads to a surprisingly long jumping puzzle through the bowels of the station. There are few enemies other than turrets, and while it’s not terribly difficult, it’s a lot longer than I figured it would be. You eventually will reach the end then find…two glowing eyes in the darkness.

It’s not an enemy, but some sort of lost robotic dog. If this thing has a lore backstory, I haven’t found it yet. You can go up and activate “Good Boy Protocol” which is a triumph, and then you will transport the dog back to the HELM, where you can visit and pet it any time, another triumph.

It’s certainly the strangest, most involved collectible I can remember seeing in Destiny 2, and a great surprise that is different than the usual weapon drop. This season has been all about collectibles with Rasputin music nodes to find and those 50 orbs to locate and shoot to unlock this robo dog.

This was great. I enjoyed tracking down all the orbs. I like the sparrow. I like the weird little mini jumping dungeon. And I like the dog. It’s yet another thing this season that has worked really well, and I think Bungie really did a great job this time around after seasons had been flagging a bit before this. No, we’re not getting any wild mega-ultra secrets, but stuff like this is cool too, and was really fun to discover.
