Modest Mouse drummer and co-founder Jeremiah Green died Saturday following his battle with cancer. <\/p>\n

He was 45 years old.<\/p>\n

In a statement released by the band, Green had gone to sleep and never woke up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t know a way to ease into this: Today we lost our dear friend, Jeremiah,\u201d the band said on Facebook. \u201cHe laid down to rest and simply faded out.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI’d like to say a bunch of pretty words right now, but it just isn’t the time. These will come later, and from many people. Please appreciate the love you give, get, have given, and will get. Above all, Jeremiah was about love. We love you.\u201d <\/p>\n

Green was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, his mother Carol Namatame revealed on Christmas Day. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with a very heavy heart that the Green and Namatame families announce the passing of their husband, father, son and brother, Jeremiah Green,\u201d Namatame said in a post on Facebook.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeremiah was a light to so many. At this time the family is requesting privacy. More information will be forthcoming including a Celebration of Life for friends and fans in the coming months. Jeremiah’s loved ones would like to thank everyone for their continued well wishes and support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Green founded Modest Mouse alongside lead singer Issac Brock and bassist Eric Judy in 1992. <\/p>\n

He performed with Modest Mouse until 2003, when he opted to leave the band. Green’s hiatus lasted only one year and he rejoined his bandmates in 2004. <\/p>\n

Following the announcement of his death, tributes from across the music community came pouring in, including a few from former Modest Mouse members.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe great Jeremiah Green. My friend, bandmate, and the most creative musician I ever met.\u201d tweeted Johnny Marr<\/a>The Smiths founder, and former Modest Mouse guitarist. <\/p>\n

\u201cRest In Peace Jeremiah,\u201d said Black Keys’ drummer Patrick Carney <\/p>\n

\u201cJ.G. I love you. always. Forever.\u201d Former Modest Mouse guitarist Jim Fairchild commented on the band’s Instagram post.<\/p>\n
