Yellowstone<\/strong><\/em> fans are used to explosive season finales, sometimes with the lives of several main characters left hanging in the balance. So it’s understandable that the season 5 mid-season finale left viewers feeling a bit underwhelmed. Aside from the major development in the Jamie vs. Beth battle, it was a bit of a slow burn, with a visit to the 6666<\/em>a flashback to Rip’s branding, and Kayce (Luke Grimes) taking over the ranch. <\/p>\n

John Dutton (Kevin Costner) talks to Monica (Kelsey Asbille) about Kayce taking over the ranch in Rip’s absence (John recognizes she “wears the pants” in their relationship). John explains that he’d like their son Tate to take over the ranch some day, and “The ranch can’t be Tate’s someday if the ranch isn’t here.” Monica also takes John’s offer of living back on the ranch in East Camp, a house that offers their family a fresh start.<\/p>\n

John shows his support for the efforts of Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) to stop the proposed pipeline that will run beneath the reservation, At the statehouse, Jamie (Wes Bentley) addresses the legislature. He claims that in canceling funding for the airport, Governor Dutton violated state law and robbed the state of jobs and taxes and threats to extinguish the biggest source of revenue, tourism. He formally requested a senate tribunal seeking impeachment, and the request was approved.<\/p>\n

Beth Finds Out the Family Secret<\/h2>\n

After confronting Jamie about calling for their father’s impeachment, Jamie tells Beth about the train station, and she confronts John about it. John lays out the details to Beth: “It’s a trash can for everyone who has attacked us that lays in a jurisdictional dead zone in a county with a population of exactly zero, hence no jury of your peers and no court for a change in venue . Why are you so surprised?”<\/p>\n

Beth, who has acted as the Dutton family mastermind, somehow finds all of this shocking, yet is quick to point to a solution: “I think that’s the place for Jamie. What do you think, Daddy?” After all, Jamie knows about the train station and will do anything to stop John. Jamie, in turn, confers with Sarah about setting up a similar end to Beth. All of this leads up to a conclusion to the Jamie vs. Beth battle that has been brewing since last season. But first, we wait until the show returns. <\/p>\n
