Mulbah is the first Penn State player to publicly announce his intentions to enter the portal in the aftermath of Monday’s win over Utah in the Rose Bowl.

Mulbah, a redshirt sophomore, appeared in 12 games during the 2022 season and didn’t record any statistics. Mulbah played 39 defensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Mulbah earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.

The 6-foot-3, 296-pound Mulbah signed with Penn State out of Harrisburg (Pa.) Susquehanna Township in the Class of 2020. Mulbah was a three-star recruit in the industry generated 247Sports Composite, and he was ranked as the no. 6 players in Pennsylvania and the No. 70 defensive tackle nationally.

Mulbah’s offer list featured a host of AAC and MAC schools, plus a couple of independents. He was a developmental prospect, and the hope was that his impressive showings in the weight room could translate over to the field on Saturdays.

He didn’t see the field as a freshman in 2020 before making his collegiate debut in 2021. Mulbah appeared in six games last season and recorded four tackles (two solo) in his playing time. He also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.

Penn State faces some changes on the interior of its defensive line with stalwart PJ Mustipher is off to the NFL after exhausting his eligibility. red shirt junior Hakeem Beamonwho started 12 games this season, is set to return, and while redshirt junior D’von Ellies can also return, he participated in Senior Day festivities.

red shirt sophomore Coziah Izzard rejoined the rotation after missing the first four games of the season for undisclosed reasons, while freshman Zane Durant got extended run and appeared in all 13 games. Second-year player Jordan van den Berg was also a member of a rotation.

freshman Kaleb Artis, the other defensive tackle signed in the Class of 2022, appeared in two games while redshirting. Penn State signed three-star defensive tackle Tyriq Blanding in the Class of 2023.

The Nittany Lions could look to the transfer portal to add to their defensive line group.
