LOS ANGELES — After a long, grueling season, the Georgia Bulldogs stand one win away from consecutive national titles.

no. 1 Georgia (14-0, 8-0 SEC) returns to the field on Monday night when it takes on No. 3 TCU (13-1, 9-0 B12) in the 2023 CFP national championship game in Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium. The Bulldogs reached the game thanks to a thrilling 42-41 victory over No. 4 Ohio State in the Peach Bowl, while the Horned Frogs made the title game after topping No. 2 Michigan 51-45 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Despite losing 15 players from the 2021 season to the NFL Draft, Georgia took care of business week after week this fall.

Georgia opened the season in Atlanta with a commanding 49-3 victory over Oregon before shutting out Samford 33-0 in Week 2 and dismantling South Carolina 48-7 in Week 3. After so-so showings in a 39-22 victory over Kent State in Week 4 and a 26-22 win over Missouri in Week 5, the Bulldogs got back on track by blasting Auburn 42-10 in Week 6 then dominating Vanderbilt 55-0 in Week 7.

The Bulldogs had a bye week before handling Florida 42-20 in Week 9 then significantly limiting Tennessee 27-13 in Week 10. The Bulldogs closed the regular season by beating up Mississippi State 45-19 in Week 11, holding off Kentucky 16-6 in Week 12 and keeping Georgia Tech in check by a 37-14 score in the regular season finale. Georgia then returned to Atlanta on Dec. 3 and blasted LSU 50-30 for the Bulldogs’ first SEC championship since 2017.

If Georgia takes care of business Monday, the Bulldogs will have won consecutive national titles and captured the program’s fourth national title in program history. A win over the Horned Frogs would make the Bulldogs the first back-to-back national champion since the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2011-12.

TCU, meanwhile, had the story of an underdog who, other than one slip-up late in the year, dominated the competition throughout the fall.

The Horned Frogs hit the ground running under new head coach Sonny Dykes by beating Colorado 38-13 in Week 1 before taking care of Tarleton State 59-17 in Week 2, having a week off then beating rival SMU 42-34 in Week 4. TCU effectively arrived on the scene by trouncing Oklahoma 55-24 in Week 5 before besting Kansas 38-31 in Week 6 and holding off Oklahoma State 43-40 in Week 7.

TCU didn’t slow down there, either.

The Horned Frogs handled Kansas State 38-28 in Week 8, held off West Virginia 41-31 in Week 9 then topped Texas Tech 34-24 in Week 10. After outlasting Texas 17-10 in Week 11, TCU edged out Baylor 29- 28 with a late field goal in Week 12 before pulverizing Iowa State 62-14 in Week 13.

TCU’s luck briefly ran out in the Big 12 Championship Game, as the team’s late rally was not enough to beat Kansas State in a 31-28 overtime contest. The Horned Frogs shook off that lost come playoff time, however, and took care of Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl by a 51-45 score.

The Horned Frogs now stand one win away from their first national title since 1938.

The coverage of both teams officially began Friday with their arrivals to Los Angeles. Here’s a look at some of the photos once Georgia landed at LAX.
