Limbo no longer describes Chris Beard‘s status at Texas.

But as the No. 6 Longhorns prepare for a game at Oklahoma State on Saturday, limbo may now apply to UT’s current players and staff as some new realities may be sinking in following Beard’s dismissal on Thursday.

Anything short of a deep run in March probably means UT’s current staff will be looking for new jobs come April. In this age of NIL and the transfer portal, UT’s current players with future eligibility are probably already getting feelers from other programs about the possibility of relocating at the end of the season.

And now these players and coaches are supposed to have the discipline their former head coach allegedly failed to show on Dec. 12 to dig deep and push themselves well out of their comfort zones to achieve the same kind of success they were expected to have with Beard on the sideline?

This group deserves any and all support Longhorn Nation can give them — no matter what the final record shows this season. They didn’t ask for this.
