Al Roker returned to the \u201cToday\u201d show on Friday after dealing with health issues for months. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The veteran weather forecaster said in one of his first appearances back on show that his heart was \u201cjust bursting.\u201d He shared his health journey during a segment with his wife, ABC News correspondent Deborah Roberts, and co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Carson Daly and Craig Melvin. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI’m just thrilled to be here,\u201d Roker said. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Roberts said that her husband is a \u201cliving, breathing miracle,\u201d and that he was a \u201cvery, very, very sick man.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI think most people did not know that,\u201d she continued, adding that Roker was a \u201cmedical mystery for a couple of weeks.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIt was the most tumultous, frightening journey that we have ever been on,\u201d Roberts said. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Roker explained that he had blood clots \u2014 which he said doctors believe may have resulted from his COVID infection in September \u2014 and internal bleeding. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI lost half my blood, and they were trying to figure out where it was,\u201d he said, explaining that doctors found that he had two bleeding ulcers after he underwent surgery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cHad to resection the colon, take out my gallbladder,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI went in for one operation. I got four free,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Roker revealed in November that he was hospitalized with blood clots in his leg and lungs. He was discharged from the hospital on Thanksgiving, but was readmitted the following day \u201cdue to some complications,\u201d Kotb said in a Dec. 1 statement on-air. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The show’s weather personality spent several weeks in the hospital before returning home last month, where \u201cToday\u201d show anchors and staff surprised Roker at his doorstep with a Christmas carol serenade. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Roker announced in 2020 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He said in an update later that his doctor found no evidence the disease had spread after surgery to remove his prostate. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

During Friday’s segment, Roker said he appreciated the support from his family and friends during his latest struggles. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe prayer, you could feel it,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
