Quinn Redeker \u2014 who starred in the hit soap opera \u201cDays of Our Lives\u201d \u2014 has died at 86.<\/p>\n

Redeker passed away Dec. 20 in Los Angeles due to natural causes. His death was announced by his family, according to Deadline.<\/p>\n

The actor played the role of Alex Marshall on \u201cDays of Our Lives\u201d from 1979 to 1987, a villainous character who was eventually sent to prison for insurance fraud on the show. <\/p>\n

Some of Redeker’s other credits included playing Rex Sterling on the soap \u201cThe Young and the Restless\u201d from 1987 to 1994. Before his role as Sterling, he briefly played two other characters in the series.<\/p>\n

The official Twitter account for \u201cThe Young and the Restless\u201d penned a brief tribute<\/a> to Redeker, saying he \u201cblessed\u201d the series with his characters.<\/p>\n

During his career, Redeker earned two nominations for a Daytime Emmy Award for best supporting actor in a drama series for his role as Rex Sterling. <\/p>\n

Redeker was also a screenwriter and was nominated for an Academy Award for the screenplay for the classic 1978 film \u201cThe Deer Hunter,\u201d starring Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep. Redeker received a story co-credit for the movie, which won five Oscars, including Best Picture.<\/p>\n

His other film work included 1972’s \u201cThe Candidate\u201d and 1979’s \u201cThe Electric Horseman\u201d \u2014 both with actor Robert Redford \u2014 and 1980’s \u201cOrdinary People,\u201d which won four Oscars, including Best Director for Redford and Best Picture.<\/p>\n

The actor also made appearances on many TV shows, including \u201cCSI: Miami,\u201d \u201cFantasy Island,\u201d \u201cStarsky & Hutch,\u201d \u201cThe Bob Newhart Show,\u201d \u201cIronside,\u201d \u201cThat Girl,\u201d \u201cThe Six Million Dollar Man ,\u201d \u201cBarnaby Jones,\u201d \u201cAdam-12,\u201d \u201cBonanza\u201d and \u201cSea Hunt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Redeker was married to Suzanne Elizabeth Long from 1958 to 1959 and then married actress Patricia Ann Graves from 1963 to 1980. The latter pair had four children together. <\/p>\n

He is survived by his children and two grandchildren.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
