Fans React to MODOK in the ‘Quantumania’ TrailerMarvel Studios

The latest trailer for Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania Has dropped, getting fans hyped up for the next adventure of heroes Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and their extended super-family, including Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) ) and Scott’s daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton).

The new teaser also gave viewers more of a clue as to what they can expect from Jonathan Majors as comic-book baddie Kang the Conqueror, who is making his big-screen debut as the primary antagonist of Phase Five following his initial appearance as an alternate version of that character in Loki.

But the trailer also unexpectedly revealed that another supervillain from Marvel Comics will play a role in the new movie… and he is played by a familiar face.

Back in 2021, Evangeline Lilly accidentally revealed that Corey Stoll would be returning to the Ant-Man franchise after being dispatched to the Quantum Realm in the first movie. Stoll played Darren Cross, aka Yellowjacket—but he has undergone quite the transformation since then, and it has now been confirmed in the Quantumania trailer that Stoll is playing MODOK.

MODOK, which stands for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing, has appeared throughout Marvel Comics for over 40 years, and was recently voiced by Patton Oswalt in a stop-motion animated series. MODOK is known for his distinctive appearance, consisting of a giant head that exists in a mechanized body equipped with all kinds of advanced weaponry. And it seems that director Peyton Reed has been somewhat literal in transposing the character to live-action.

Some fans reacted negatively to how MODOK is shown in the trailer, complaining on social media that this interpretation of the character looks silly—while others were pleased that the MCU appears to be remaining faithful to MODOK’s deeply unserious appearance in the comics.

The way Stoll’s MODOK currently looks, it’s likely that he will provide comic relief in Quantumania as opposed to being a genuine threat. Either that, or this is another She-Hulk: Attorney at Law situation, and the CGI will have been improved upon by the time the movie is released on February 17.

You Might Also Like

Fans React to MODOK in the ‘Quantumania’ TrailerMarvel Studios The latest trailer for Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania Has dropped, getting fans hyped up for the next adventure of heroes Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and their extended super-family, including Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle …
