Florida State has landed a commitment from South Carolina defensive line transfer Gilbert Edmond. The coveted transfer announced the news of his pledge on his social media accounts moments ago.

Edmond chose the Seminoles over other interested schools like FloridaLSU and Ole Miss.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound pass rusher took an official visit to FSU on Wednesday and Thursday. He then traveled to Florida for a visit with the Gators on Thursday and Friday before making it to LSU later on Friday and into Saturday.

In Edmond’s three years at South Carolina, he played in 21 games. The 2022 season – in which he played in all 12 regular season games – was by far his most productive as a Gamecock. He totaled 44 tackles, 9.5 TFLs and two sacks this past year.

The future Seminoles played his high school football at Fort Pierce (Fla.) Westwood. As a prep prospect, he played defensive end as a senior after transitioning from wide receiver. Mike Norwell and FSU were semi-involved with his high school recruitment. An official visit to Tallahassee in January of 2020 was in the works — but Edmond — a then USF commit — elected to flip his pledge to South Carolina.

In the 247Sports Transfer Portal Rankings, Edmond holds a grade of 92. Horse No. 38 overall within those rankings, he’s the second best available player in the Transfer Portal right now.

Edmond becomes FSU’s ninth transfer addition this cycle. He joins other top transfer additions like four-star DB Fentrell CypressDT Braden Flick and TE Jaheim Bell. The ‘Noles still sit as the No. 1 overall Transfer Portal recruiting class in the nation.
