the next generation 2023 Mercedes-AMG GT coupe has appeared in a leaked image ahead of its formal unveiling due in the coming months.

An image published social media platform on Instagram by user @liucunyi_starandcar (via @cochespias1) shows Mercedes-AMG’s new GT – expected to be available only in coupe form – without camouflage, in what appears to be entry-level, four-cylinder trim.

Its styling borrows cues from the latest Mercedes-AMG SL roadster – the twin under the skin to the new GT – and retains the long-bonnet, short-tailgate proportions of the outgoing GT sold in Australia from 2014 to 2021.

It’s expected the new GT will be powered by the same range of engines as the new SL – which would see familiar twin-turbocharged V8 power be joined by a turbo four-cylinder, and V8 plug-in hybrid power for the first time.

Spy photos indicate four-cylinder and V8 models may wear unique front fascias, with a larger front grille and lower air inlets on the V8 cars – plus larger alloy wheels, upgraded brakes, and a fixed rear spoiler on some models.

The gray AMG GT seen in the leaked image appears to be a four-cylinder, based on the smaller front grille compared to V8 prototypes seen in spy photos – but it’s fitted with a black exterior trim package, and larger black wheels.

If the related SL is any guide, expect the new GT to offer the choice of a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid technology, a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, and the V8 combined with a plug-in hybrid system.

Engine outputs in the new AMG SL range from 280kW in the four-cylinder SL43, to a flagship V8 hybrid SL63 E Performance expected to produce approximately 600kW.
