Ubisoft hasn’t given a clear indication as to how much Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope has sold, but it seems that the game hasn’t lived up to the company’s expectations. As part of a January financial update today, co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned how “surprised” they were by its “underperformance in the final weeks of 2022 and early January.” Just Dance 2023 Edition was another game Ubisoft called out as an underperformer.

Ubisoft appears to be facing some tough times on the whole for the time being. Guillemot stated in the same report: “We are clearly disappointed by our recent performance. We are facing contrasted market dynamics as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and everlasting live games, in the context of worsening economic conditions affecting consumer spending.”

One area in which Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope exceeded has been in the critical reception. We were quite fond of the game – you can check out our review here.

Also remember that there’s much more to come for the game in 2023. Three waves of DLC are scheduled, including a brand new adventure with Rayman to close out the year. We have more information about the DLC plans here.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope launched in October and is now available on Switch.
